star fish in a new tank

my lfs convinced me to get a sand sifting sea star as they were "on sale" but my tank is only about a month and a half old so im worried its gonna starve. i have 3"x20"x18" of sand and two conchs. is my star going to have enough to eat?

I needs worms, algae, pods and other various things to eat. It is going to starve. Find a super established tank for it.

Never believe anything that this LFS says again. They likely just sold you something that they knew would not work for profit. I guess that they just could be incompetent... so not much better.

they seem really knowledgable about everything else ive talked to them about and they have been doing it for a long time. could i try feeding it directly? i do feed mysis and brine morning and night so they should eat that correct?
