So we got our card in the mail, and my wife was on the phone with the IRS and they stated that we needed to give them the last 6 digits of our SS number and she gave me the phone and I hung up on them, does this seem correct? Last 6 never heard of that? Seems like a pretty fancy rouse.

Usually the IRS doesn’t call you they send people or mail. They also don’t ask for your ss number let alone almost the whole dang thing. Usually last 4 if anything.

If you called a legitimate IRS number then you can rest assured they already know your SSN and are asking you in order to verify your identity (which makes sense). If someone calls you never provide any information like that. Instead find a legitimate number to callback (not just any number they give you) and then proceed from there.

I would not call the number in the letter. I would look up my local IRS office and call them.

That is suspect, very elobrate hoax as well if it is one. Did you have to call and activate it or something? I can't imagine the IRS would want a phone call from every person getting a check. Sorry I can't be of more help I haven't gotten any stimulus money.

You get a email that says something is wrong with an account and then they conveniently provide a link.

I thought the stim checks were either direct deposit or a actual paper check in the mail.

Im sorry, i dont think anyone is in danger of fraud by calling the number on the back of an official institutions debit card.

More likely when you give your full credit card number, exp date and 3 digit code to the pizza boy over the phone who decides he wants to write it all down on the back of a receipt while punching it into the credit machine.....

Now thats a very elaborate hoax LOL.

How do you know the card is real? This is how people get burned. I’d call the main number of the supposed issuer and go from there.

If youre expecting a stimulus check from the govt and you recieve a debit card with your name on it and instructions on how to activate, (which is common knowledge this is the method of distribution for this "round of stimulus) i wouldnt hesitate to verify information to recieve funds.....

I believe he did call the issuing customer services number.

My dad gets freaked out when he has to verify any personal info for anything too. Dont feel too bad. Its your livelyhood not anyone elses.

This makes me want to start a thread and just talk about how someone tried scamming you.

I have two fake names(did this while I was in school because I thought it was funny...)

First name is David Hen, second is Elliot Gates. Whenever I get a phone call and they ask for them, I just laugh and screw with them at that point.haha

I got the card, called the number, it was all electronic, then I called back to verify the amount available. Never talked with a person, never had to supply my SS#.
