hello,

I’ve been struggling with STN for a bit. This year my tank has been through a little bit to say the least. I switched from coral colors to AFR, late last year early this year. I also had really high salinity at one point…. Calibration solution was not accurate. I had a pump get clogged and my tank temp went from 78 to around 72F over night. I had to dose Prazi-Pro for flukes, and i think that is it…? All in all the tank has held up well, lost some acros, but that is expected. What has me concerned, i have a monti that just keeps getting STN. It went from a nice big colony to a nice chunky frag - because i keep cutting the STN away. I also have a tort that has recession at the base. But that may be a fish causing that. There is a butterfly fish that sleeps at its base and goes and hides there when spooked also. I’m curious if you guys have any input.
I also have another monti that has what looks like STN but it’s under a rock… so my urchin or something could have messed with it. What’s odd, the two montis have multiple of the same coral, form the same mother. One colony show STN and the others from the same original colony do not…..?

Attached is an ICP. I have aluminum that at like a 4 point something and high iodine from what I think is food. Seaweed…. Been having this for a bit. But i don’t think it’s terribly high. All lacking elements are being taken care of by a custom order from Captriv8.

Make sure your salinity and alk are accurate.
Also, how is the flow in the tank? Do you know how much PAR they are getting?

@Randy Holmes-Farley looking at the Iodine levels, is that a potential cause? Also, 0 Manganese will affect LPS, does it also affect SPS tissue?

I use the tropic Marin scientific hydrometer. The glass calibrated one, which lined up exactly with my ICP. Flow is good. MP 40 on lagoon mode @40% in a 50 gallon AIO. Display is about 35 gallons.

PAR, between 280-450 depending on location in tank and time of day. I’m running two Neptune Skys.

I have manganese coming in. For some reason i cannot lower my iodine. I have one tang and 3 angle fish. So i need to feed sea weed. Two of my angels are actually butterfly’s. According to Randy Holmes it’s not terribly high. All my ICPs have high iodine.

I’m hoping it’s from everything that has happened throughout this year and it will stop soon. Crazy thing, my Walt Disney has been a champion through it all.

Just and after thought…… i was dosing some aminos from two little fishy’s. I watched a video a while back ago from reef builders saying aminos cause bacteria infections. I’m wondering if that could be it? I haven’t dosed any in a few days, I’ll give it a few weeks.
