5 gallon reef tank full of lps and softies, cleaner shrimp, hermits and snails. I want a single fish(I know a 5gallon is small but if any signs of stress are shown I will return fish)
My ideas are
Firefish(worried it will hide all the time)
Or
Ocelaris clown(worried it will host and kill coral)
Or
Orchid dotty back(worried it will pick on inverts)
Or
Highfin goby with pistol shrimp(worried pistol shrimp will kill shrimp, crabs, and snails, even if I get a small one)

Thoughts?

The gobies are your only option.
Clowns and dotty backs need a 20 or bigger

Wouldn't a dottyback be fine in a rank that small beacuse it would be an only fish?
I have seen many people with multiple clowns in a 5gallon(there probley not the happiest but they had them for years)
Would a pistol shrimp such as a candy stripe kill my cleanup crew and cleaner shrimp?

Just because one person does it doesn’t mean it’s right. Also if the fish is alone it still doesn’t change the fact that it needs a bigger tank.
