Stocking for a 70g rimless SPS tank

Hey I am finally able to start adding fish to my aquarium! I am picking up my first fish this week which is a white tail tang.

My thoughts on stocking were

1 white tail tang
1 6 line wrasse
1 Black storm clown
1 black ice clown
1 blenny of some sort

Any thoughts on this list? Can i have more should i have less? I really like scopas tangs, if i got a scopas instead of a blenny would that work? Trying to only get fish that do something... (except i know the clowns dont haha)

What are the dimensions?
As for scopas, IME they need 6-8’ tanks ideally. These can be hyper and aggressive, I watched mine murder a CBB twice the size of it and a CBA that was in the tank way before it was.

Personally I’d go for a Gang of wrasses over a six line as then not only do you have colour and movement but also not too much aggression. Look through the thread “Wrasse Lovers Thread” and pick out your favourites then I can help. Also why not go for a couple gobies? Some of my favourite genera are Stonogobiops, Eviota, Trimma, Tryssogobius and there are more, I recommend looking through a Google search of gobies and doing the same thing (Making a list of your favourites then I can sort through them).

The only tang that even has a chance of working is a bristletooth or tomini. Even a yellow tang gets quite aggressive in a 75 gallon and this tank is smaller than that. A scopas tang is not even remotely possible. Those need 180+.

I was limiting myself on wrasses because its a barebottom, same with the gobies. I really wanted a pistol shrimp combo but I think for an SPS tank I wanted the flow without having to worry about sand. And also the clean up is much easier on a Bare bottom. I really like the pink streak wrasse but heard they dont ship well at all which is why i was looking at 6 lines

I really wanted a pistol shrimp combo but I think for an SPS tank I wanted the flow without having to worry about sand. And also the clean up is much easier on a Bare bottom. I really like the pink streak wrasse but heard they dont ship well at all which is why i was looking at 6 lines

Fairy and flasher wrasse do not require a sand bottom and are beautiful. 6 lines are ***holes

Do they hunt for flatworms etc as much as say a 6line would? Im hoping I can get something utilitarian. And I can have multiples of those?

You can have multiples as long as you get varying genus. There is a guide on here that explains which ones can be kept together. Your tank is pretty small though, so I wouldn't do more than 2.

Flashers and Fairies are not pest hunters. The Sixline is as said above a BIG ***holes. They will kill essentially all rock dwellers unless there’s enough rockwork. One search for six line will resort in about 10 bad stories to every 1 or 2 good stories. Also, yes you can have multiple, they will mostly cohabitate. I’d use my gang as an example but many could say it’s a bad example and for good reason.

As for Pink Streaks, these are excellent however much better off getting one from a trusted online retailer or LFS. The rest of the pest hunters are all nasty or need sand beds.
Is there any particular reason other than being easier to clean (IME that’s not so true and it’s just as easy as a sand bottom tank) such as if it’s an SPS heavy tank with sand being blown everywhere?

Personally I’d go for a sand bottom tank as they open up the amount of fish you can have by a lot.
As for gobies, many of them will just stay in holes and crevices they find in the rock such as Eviota and Trimma species.

The plan is a heavy sps tank with a few lps in there. My reef 20 years ago was sand and it just got gross and i like the look currently. I know it will be tougher for a while but i think i like the barebottom.
