I've got a 35 gallon Waterbox I'll be setting up soon that will be a mixed reef with mainly softies and lps, I may have a couple of sps at some point but that's down the road. I know there's not a lot of room for fish but I'd like to have some colorful community fish that don't include clownfish. CUC will consist of cleaner shrimp, snails, serpent start and fighting conch so nothing that will put them on their menu. I'd like to have blenny or goby of some kind but aside from that I'm open to suggestions for a few fish with some nice color that would work. The sandbed will be 2" deep but no more than that and possibly a bit less so sand burrowing fish won't really work. I appreciate any feedback you guys have.

Watch those candy hogfish… I had one murder a wrasse before in a tank slightly larger than yours (45 gallon). They can be jerks with similarly shaped fish.

Thank you for the heads up, I'll keep that in mind when selecting my fish.

I'd personally stay away from gobies if you want a "lively" tank.

The ones that perch or on the sand like YWG, shrimp gobie, or orange dot don't really move much from their cave. They do have interesting personalities tho.

The ones that swim, like a firefish, are extremely shy, esp in a smaller tank thats crowded, or tanks with more aggressive fish,, they just hide in their hole and come out only when lights out or when feeding time.
