I have a filter for 50 gallons with 2 bags of carbon and a bag of perogen and a uv sterilizer how many fish can I put in my 40 gallon

It really depends on their adult size, if you want more fish in your aquarium consider species that stay small.

Filtration is only one consideration, it sounds like you have either a hob or a canister filter, which to me this is just minimum filtration to polish the water, but they do nothing to export nutrients from the system. The uv also does not export nutrients.

Territory is another consideration which is defined by rockwork, the more rockwork you have the more fish you can generally keep.

I have 5 fish in my 40 breeder, I used to have 7 but got rid of the anthias as they caused trouble to the other fish, I feel 5 fish is a good stock
