Should the Stockman Standpipe be the same height as my Main Pipe?

This is a "from scratch" build, so I have no idea yet as to where the waterline will be.

My Main Pipe is 6" below my Emergency Drain which is 1" below my weir. Yes, its a Bean Animal.

Also, this is for a freshwater planted, but the concepts are transferrable from the Salty side of things.

I am looking for a general rule of thumb when designing the stockman. I have my Stockman currently 1" shorter than my Main Pipe (Open Channel) and I am thinking this should be the same height.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bumping your thread! Do you have a picture of what your tank looks like?

As requested here are the main specs of the aquarium:

Aquarium Specs.png

Obviously the overflow setup is a Bean Animal.

I have my Emergency Drain, 1" below the bottom of the weir
I have my Primary Drain (open), 6" below the top of the Emergency Drain

My issue is determining how tall the stockman should be considering I still have no water in the setup. Had it been a running setup, it would have been so much easier.

Also, this is my first foray into plumbed aquariums and I have a tendency to overthink almost everything.

Remember, this is for a Freshwater planted. I have a Sicce SDC 7.0 (still in its box) for the return pump. I would rather have a little more and dial it down than not enough.

Thanks for the help.

Figured it out.

The cap of the Stockman will be flush with the top of the Emergency Drain. Since I want the water level not sounding like Niagara Falls (in my living room after all).

Thanks for replying @Gumbies R Us
