Glad I found this thread. Looking forward to the journey. I went from a nano to a Cade peninsula 1800 about 8 months ago. They just need time to cook.

You see the tank wanting to get to the sweet spot we all know will come but it can’t be rushed.

Agreed, Perry is an OG and glad he didn’t take a break for long. He knows how to pull out the colors which is a skill few have.

Didn’t mean for my post to come across negatively. It’s good see that corals can still thrive while the rest of tank is finding its way.

Good to see you, it has been awhile hasn't it, lol. That sweet spot is sort of like finding the "in between" during mediation. That spot, oh is it bliss! The reef has been more challenging than I thought it would be, a variety of methods tried, minimal losses, reminds me of humans. We can be so fragile, yet so resilient. This system is that one, where if I can pull off acros and lps, and still color the acros like mad, in a nano, then it will have been worth the effort. I did try an rush it, and bent many reef rules in the process, but at 8 months in from start, pretty stoked. I already have another system that is capable of being put up tomorrow, 48x24x16", but no hurry, kind of looking forward to seeing this one fill in and take off. Maybe in 2026

That is sick! I am seeing my piece trending towards this color scheme, which will be dope as heck! Dude, we need to catch up, maybe in the water this week. The hurricane should be bringing a nice groundswell. Sandbars at Ponce have been great, I am sure you are aware. Fingers crossed brother!

Hey brother, just saw this, man I get busy with other stuff and life distractions, lol. Thank you for the kind words, the tank is humming along, made changes to support a better bare bottom system, still using bacteria and carbon source, but truly keeping an ocd clean look, but allowing nature to turn this one into a killer looking nano. The rock is still processing, despite being aged and very mature, it still was full of gunk, and over time, I am using the program to guide laden bound nutrients out of the rock, so I am now in the bubble algae phase, the hair was a PITA, I welcome the bubble. Despite all of this process, the corals stay healthy. This tank has gone from 5.3dkh to 11.9dkh and back to 6.1dkh in the matter of a couple months time. This is due to not testing, alk once a month or so, only problem is that AFR has trace, so that rise was not good, a few got upset, thus a test for discovery. Admittedly, I need to put more energy in than just drops, feeding, and glass. I do however feel that with this approach and testing more often, I could probably be further down the line in maturity. Either way, I am stoked to have this little system running, and to be keeping acros and acans together, in a bare bottom system, with low maintenance, quite stoked actually...

Continued effort on the system to knock back algae, bubble specific, which is really welcome. The rock used to begin this nano was from my original tanks, being homed in my buddy Matt's sump. He gifted it back to start the project. This rock, dating back to my 60, then 90, then 112, and on to this little system, lol, was great to have back, but has always been laden with nitrate. This rock actually benefited his system, but I only took what was needed, nothing more. Rock is not as necessary with a carbon/bac system. Anyway, I have struggled to free this rock since the 60. and am now paying the downstream price.
What I am seeing is the rock, gradually releasing nutrients, the bubble is just the last type of algae that persists, trying to keep a foothold, but slowly losing to bacteria. Even corraline algae has died off, which is the sign that the tank is transitioning to what I envisioned from the get go, a ULNS nano, with crazy color. We are getting there! The tank to date, is the best I have seen it. I am only at 10 months in, so I have little expectations, quite frankly elated to have acros living, nonetheless coloring in such an immature system, that is nano.
