Just wondering if there is an outlet, controller, etc that I could plug Kessil lights into and be able to ramp up and down so they're not just on and off ?
I love my kessil's but only missing ramp up and down like my DIY setup with the meanwell's and typhon
I saw a setup at a fellow reefer's house and it was cool and can't remember the mfg but it was a landscapish type outlet with two 110v outlets
Anyways any help is appreciated

Is there any technology (DIY ) to basically make an electronic dimmable outlet or would that just not be possible without a tear down n rewire?

Outlets are ac is power supply is dc just FYI so dimming an ac outlet to dim a dc power supply is prob not an option. Why not sell your fixture and buy a new one so you won't void the warranty

I was thinking of either putting up my kessil's ( 2 w/goose necks ) up for trade for an ai but figure no one would bite beings they have an ai setup, my tank (54 corner) is super happy on my kessil's and figure would be just as happy on an ai but beins I have these I figured I would see if there was an elec guru who may have an idea but I do see in someway your response in regards to outlet a/c and ac/dc converting but what if the a/c power was lowered into the converter , would that then lower the intensity to the led or would that just screw things up ?

If you find out what drivers they are using or the drivers Forward Voltage and Forward Current you could bypass them with a dimmable replacement but the expense and time would not be worth the effort.

Not to mention you would void the warranty

Bill, I'm not willing to waste the warranty on a wing and prayer just to have dim ability , so I'm lookin at since my DIY hood is off the tank doin a revamp on it and am gonna be lookin at the best possible arrangement for the best full spectrum of light, so I will be moving forward with research and help from the pros !

Good Call...These are simple but its not worth the voided warranty.

When you say Full Spectrum do a lot of homework. There has been a lot of conflicting views on using warm whites and reds. Also there is a lot of evidence to support that Violet or UV (410-420nm) help. The problem is these LEDs are not nearly as strong as a Cree XT-E and adding only a couple to a 30-50 LED Fixture is inconsequential. I've tested Chinese Factory fixtures using these and they simply failed to give the same colour pop a binned XT-E Royal Blue does. As far as growth I'm sure the Corals would prefer the extra PAR a quality Royal Blue offers.

I like to think Full Spectrum is the Shallow Reef less than 10 Feet and Reef Spectrum a more natural representation of what Corals receive at 20-60 feet.

Hope this helps

Bill
