Anyone using one of these? If so, brief impressions would be appreciated. Seems hard to find the necessary media. Out of fashion perhaps.

Have been using one for over 15 yrs.
Media is not that hard to find. On top you use coral media same as calcium reactor.
There may be a time when it's not that readily available but honestly the media doesn't need to be replaced that often.
In fact I run mine 75% full for 5-6 yrs and its usually down to 20% and I top it back off.
So 5 to 6 yrs you dont have to worry about.

Also using LSM and been working great at keeping nitrates in check

Only “issue” to be prepared for is Alkalinity demand increase. A SD can really deplete Alk.

I’ve been running the same media for over a year. Was available back then. Can’t seem to easily find it online now.

The carib sea is gone unless you can find some just at a store by chance.

I used one on a FO and it did it's job. Switched to sugar as a form of organic carbon dosing and it worked just as well. I never used either on my reef since I keep enough sand and rock to keep the N undetectable without an IC test.

I’ve used LSM in the past but I’ve also had success with sulphur media from amazon and eBay. Physically undistinguishable from each other. Also much more cost effective...

https://www.amazon.com/Sulfur-Granular-Sulphur-Garden-Pellets/dp/B007NZYF0Q

Or for higher purity

https://www.amazon.com/Sulfur-Prill...VYAVT1K7TM3&psc=1&refRID=AAK2FNAE1VYAVT1K7TM3

And for those concerned with the bentonite clay;

https://www.ajol.info/index.php/csj/article/viewFile/166246/155677

Not sure what if any effect it would have? @Randy Holmes-Farley may be able to elaborate on this. I went with the higher purity stuff personally and still have quite a bit left.

If I understand correctly you use the ones from Amazon that state they are 99% pure with no issues I'm looking to buy some but sorta wary any input would be appreciated thank you

Which one did you use, the 90% low purity or 99% high purity one from Amazon?

did you have better results with the korallin sulfur?
