Thanks for the help.

Took it apart. Got scraped it as much as i could. Used the acetone to clean the glass i have a very fine filmthat the acetone wont take off. Should i keep goint till it is as clean as the rest of the glass?

Many auto detailers use [HASHTAG]#0000[/HASHTAG] steel wool to detail car windows. It won't mar the glass, but will remove most surface contaminants. If I was cleaning this up, I might give that a shot over the surfaces where the old silicone was. I have also used brand new razor blades on areas that looked clean, but was still able to remove additional silicone. I don't know how much of a residue that you are dealing with, so this may not be necessary. You may be good to go like you are.

Yeah, in that pic, it looks like you still have some cleanup to do. Try that new razor blade. Those things become dull pretty quick. You might be surprised what a fresh blade will pull up.

I keep a big box of them on hand. You can get them by the box of about 100 at Lowe's or Home Depot fairly cheap. I use them once and throw them away.

you want to get as much of the silicone off as possible. There can be a film so thin that you can't even see it and it can cause problems later. Fresh silicone will not bond to cured or dry silicone. This can be a problem if your trying to hold water, on a window or something not so much. +1 on fresh blades and quad zero steel wool. I encountered this making my overflow box and I bought a 100 pack of blades and used about 20 of them on a much smaller glass box. The steel back blades will loose efficiency fairly quick when using them so switch after a few swipes. You will see streaks in the silicone your removing instead of chunks coming off. Keep the blade under a 45 degree angle, the closer to the glass the better. Get as much off like that as you can then splash some acetone on a [HASHTAG]#0000[/HASHTAG] steel wool pad and buff the rest off. This will not cause any scratches at all. good luck! (I'm a glazier.)

Typically on large tanks you want a 1/16" gap between the panes of glass. For your sump the thinner ziptie should work fine for making spacers.

Well, got it together last night. Not the best job. Hopefully it will hold, saw there was a few bubbles in it.
