Sump help

My current sump is getting upgraded so I have room for a Ca reactor, and can hopefully add a roller filter. The two main issues I have are small leaks and a refugium I don’t maintain. My options are:

1. New sump with no refugium, but with a roller mat. I’m worried it will smell and I’ll lose the refugium benifets, plus I have to maintain the filter roller….but as it is don’t maintain the sump. Ideally it would make me not need to run GFO either.

2. New sump with no roller mat, but larger refugium. Maybe a large refugium will be easier to maintain and export enough. Nitrate and Phos…but don’t want to care for a refugium.

3: forget it, buy a royal exclusive sump I can’t afford with a roller.

4. Meh just leave it how it is until later

2mnd choice, here is a blueprint for you to examine. The Fuge should be doing most of your filtration work, set up like this you do not need a roller matt, or socks, or any mechanical media for that matter, unless You Want to use it, totally dealers choice there.



I run a very similiar set up to this, only real difference, I have a dedicated Media Chamber before my Fuge where I keep my Seachem Matrix and Carbon in media bags. But skimmer after fuge so the macro algae gets all those proteins in the water.
