Sump pump recommendation

Just set up a 220 gallon tank with a sump below it in my basement, I’m not getting a high water flow out of the return nozzles. I bought the tank second hand and it’s thrived with the original owner. Maybe I’m just expecting to feel more flow? Do I need a higher quality pump? Or is this normal?

Was the tank set up asit was with the other owner ?

You could either change it depending of your overflow box or just add wavemakers to increase your tank flow

I have a magnetic fan on the glass, I have plenty of movement, I was just concerned I wasn’t filtering enough water

Tank on the first floor and sump in the basement? I ran a set up like that but 2 tanks sharing the sump. It takes a a pretty strong pump. I ran a reeflo external pump.

Yes, sump in the basement, but that’s how the previous owner had it as well

Probably going to have to calculate head pressure and see what the current pump is rated for. That's if it is in fact not strong enough. I'm not the guy to advice anyone but search for how to calculate head pressure then post that info along with the pump you have and I'm sure someone here can assist.

I guess coming from a freshwater tank with a canister directly under it, I just expected more flow, could also be that it has two outlet pipes so it seems less

you could do the bucket test to see how much water you’re moving and go from there. 500 gph is roughly 1 gal in 7 seconds

Whats you actual main pump brand and how high is the sump from the tank ?

I’ll have to look at the brand when I get home, but it’s about 10 ft from the sump to the top of the tank
