It takes practice, but its worth it to get cool macro shots :) I'd hold off on the extension tubes till you're comfortable with the macro lens and are getting the shots you want. Extension tubes add a lot of complications, easy to get frustrated with them if you're unfamiliar with macro photography.

Stunning shots. Your depth of knowledge is evident from the way in which you can turn a complicated subject into an enjoyable read, thank you.

Agree with all ^above^ comments, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for sharing your in depth knowledge here on photography. I just passed Reef Pics 101 with help from my good friend Duane and now after reading and absorbing your instructions here feel confident to make to the next level.... '201 Basic Macro Photography'

Cheers, Todd

This is precisely what I'm wanting to do myself, and have been gathering up information about it for the past 48 hours. You summed it all up in your posts, so thank you. My extension tubes were ordered on Sunday and should arrive any day now. I can't wait to see what I can do with them.

One of your pictures in the first post had a flatworm on the coral. Just a heads up, although I have to imagine you saw it already (since it was a super macro shot and it makes everything visible!). Great pictures.

Tektite, due to your thread, I got busy myself with some tubes. I referenced this thread of yours in my article.

Tektite, phenomenal macro photography. I've admired your photography for a long time in different threads and just stumbled upon this one. Thank you very much for taking the time to share these and along with your knowledge.
