Suspected colonial anemones, possible ID?

These showed up at my LFS from a tank breakdown; they’ve likely been in a system for over a decade…

They sent me home with them, and a few other rescue corals to chuck in my QT…

Unsurprisingly, this morning, around half of the colony has detached from the initial rock, and crawled about the QT tank to find new spots… so, they’re definitely some sort of anemone, or anemone-like creature…

What’s everyone’s best guess? I’m stumped!

I’m not a fan of how mobile they are, though… if they’ve moved again by the time I get home from work, I think they’re going back to my LFS!

Unfortunately, these are majanos, just a slightly different color variety. You’ll likely want to start removing them.

Are you confident of that ID?

They really don’t look like any Majanos I’ve ever seen… — at least the GSP seem unaffected by proximity, too!

No further movement since this morning either, thankfully!

I would say I’m about 80% confident. I’ve collected a few varieties and some of mine are VERY similar to yours. I don’t have any with white flecks on the tentacles though. So I could be wrong. And if I’m right, maybe you can sell some to me! ;)

I had these pest anemones before. Majano, Tulip...What ever name you call them, they multiply like carzy and NO fish eat them. I have to hand remove them one by one. They don't multiply as fast as Aiptasia, but close. I have not find any biological control for these pest.

Small update; all but two accounted for and isolated….

The remaining two are on rocks; one in a crevice! — kalk paste? or…?

I got this thing in a buy of new old stock, and used gear earlier this year… it seems like the jury’s still out on wether or not they’re effective, but I’ve been looking for an excuse to test it out since I got it! — (12vDC electrolysis wand with blunt piercing tip)

Don’t do it I used the wand and it made a very bad situation worse..
It doesn’t kill then just shrinks them, despite all the stuff that floats to the top of the water column. Minute pieces of theses dang things just create many many more of them… I had to breakdown a 265 gal reef because of them.. DONT DO IT

This is just a 15g quarantine tank, but it does have coral in it I actually like…

Any suggestions to get the last remaining anemone out of the rock? It should I just chuck the rock in some bleach?

If it works for you and you could take it out, bleach it, rinse and dry. You could also drop it in a bucket of freshwater for a while. Good luck and don’t let it spread. Chuck the wand.

I’m still shocked that I mis-identified them! - clearly I’ve been out of the hobby for too long!

In any case, they’re out of the QT tank, and in a bucket with an air stone…

Chuck em’ out? Or does anyone want any of these sneaky lil’ monsters?
