When it catches you by surprise, you surprisingly swallow 😂
Not going to touch that one. I remember my vicious Father taking great delight in making us take a couple of Tablespoons of Castor Oil at the slightest sign of Illness. I practiced distance when I was sick. Had to plug your nose , and brush your teeth before you could stop doing it . Try that with one hand. Or you would Gag forever which he thought was quite Funny

Once you swallow gasoline you learn to get good at it. I’ve never swallow tank water, yet.

Manually sucking on a tube for WC days are long gone ! C'mon man..

Get a cheap pump off of Amazon. lol

You must be one with your Reef. Saves money on testing as well, you can get a rough estimate on your parameters via taste test.

You have to live on the Edge MAN !
I have to try to get my crappy HOB Skimmer working properly all the time that is the only reason I have to suck on the air line to create air bubbles . I use a transfer pump for water changes and a submersible pump quarter horse for mixing and pumping my mixed to the Tank after

Many years ago I had an old fashion 55 long with an external overflow to sump with one of those U-tubes. Can’t recall the amount of times I tasted water restarting the siphon…
Thanks for that I was going to add a sump to my conversion fresh water Tank. Look on you tube. The use an air line shoved into the U tube to do that then pull it out. Looks like a bit of an art

Yep, I have tasted it before on a water change and it is pretty horrible how it taste.

Put the end of the hose halfway through your clenched hand, the other end in the tank. Suck on your hand then quickly put the hose in container. If tank is big enough, just submerge the whole hose in the tank, get the air out, then quickly remove half the hose into container to start siphon.

Like it , I just remembered they make an acclimation drip tube just make a bigger design. Ask a thief works too

eh you just have to watch the water as its going up into the tube.

many ppl dont watch the tube but the tank or the bucket instead.

Biggest QoL improvement for me:

I picked up a Ryobi portable inverter, it turns any of my batteries into a portable outlet. So got that, added a battery to it, and picked up a small Sicce pump to connect to it. One piece of hosing and a hose clamp later, I now have a portable battery-powered pump that I can drop in and never have to worry about starting a siphon ever again. It makes water changes so easy compared to before.

How many of you have been cleaning your tank the old-fashioned way and while suck siphoning the water out, swallowed a mouthful of dirty tank water?

🤮

Is it weird that my first course of action was to drink 2 shots of scotch? 😂
I don’t think that is weird at all, but my question is - how many things in life is your first course of action to drink two shots of scotch?
