Yup. This happens fairly often and I often chase it with some whisky. LOL. Cause that's what I like and have a lot of it around at any given time.
How many of you have been cleaning your tank the old-fashioned way and while suck siphoning the water out, swallowed a mouthful of dirty tank water?
Is it weird that my first course of action was to drink 2 shots of scotch?

I have swallowed tank water many a time but less frequently since using a Python hooked to a faucet. Mezcal is preferable to whiskey as a palate cleanser since bristle worms can substitute for the worms (actually moth larvae) in a fine mezcalHow many of you have been cleaning your tank the old-fashioned way and while suck siphoning the water out, swallowed a mouthful of dirty tank water?

You think you've been keeping aquariums for too long for it to happen to you, only those novice keepers manage such a silly mistake. You've paid your dues in the past, you know what your aquariums taste like already.
Then you're mid-cleaning a couple of tanks and forget to clear your lines before starting a new siphon. Right into the mouth.
I've been keeping salt tanks for 4 years and freshwater for 20+ - this happened to me a month agoYOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD FOR A MOUTHFUL OF TANK WATER.

This is the same reason I refuse to syphon gas as well. Hygger makes and excellent hand pump....

Why suck on end of tube for wc? Just close a plastic clamp on tube near tank, bend tube just below it and hold in hand then submerge intake of suction device and fill with water, lift out of water and let water fill tube, repeat until tube and suction end are full of water then place it in water, quickly release the bend in the tube and clamp. the water flow will suck tank water into bucket and you can start suctioning the sand bed!

A little gulp of saltwater rich in minerals won’t hurt you, I think its actually therapeutic. My conure drinks from my tanks like it’s good for her, what’s good for the birds must be good for us.

That’s a lot of work. Seems easier to just suck.
Tank water isn't as bad as skimmate. Neither are as bad as gasoline though. Nothing like burping gas fumes for hours

sorry incomplete, my keyboard hates me. continue: some overflow and then my board ducks under a waves and when it comes up i can just see a brown piles of something on the end of my board that was definitely not seaweed.
