Tang diet

I purchased a large chocolate tang for $85 at my lfs and his teeth seem pretty grown out, are they supposed to be big or no? I used to have a moorish idol and when his teeth would grow out I would feed him clams on the half shell...should I do this with my chocolate tang? Also I feed him nori and shrimp.. is there anything else I should include in his diet?

They shouldn't need that. Their teeth don't keep growing like triggers' do.

Wow I just got a chocolate Mimic Tang also and he doesn't look anything like that yet how long before mine takes on that color. Actually I didn't buy it my sister-in-law showed up with it I didn't want to put it in my tank because I had a purple tang but so far so good.

When I first got mine he was a gross brown color but the second day he turned into the color he is in the picture.

Feed them veg. every day. Many frozen veg. foods out there and spectrum makes pellet veg. food as well.

Mine must be an adolescent still cuz he's pretty much just yellow with a little darkening on the edges. Getting a picture of this fish is really tricky business

Yea he seems to still be pretty young

I know they are predominately algae eaters but they seem to eat zooplankton just as readily

The young tangs need more meaty diet where the older ones require more veg.
