Me too. I don't care how cold, hot or how much it is raining or snowing or how dark it is. And I'm 75 years old.

Thats why they make warm clothes. :grimacing-face:

It's like when people use to see me with my snow blower. They say, OMG you are so lucky you have a snow blower.

Luck has nothing to do with it. If you live in a place where it snows, you go to a store that sells snow blowers and buy one. They say the same thing in a blackout when I start my generator. Same thing. Go and buy one.

Paul your old school and things you’ve been through and seen makes you hard core reefer
Great pictures

Thank you Nman. I look at Millenniums and I think to myself. OMG. This is the future of our country. I'm glad that I am old and on my way out because I fear for the future of this country.

Kids getting out of college now. You have got to be kidding. My Daughter is 44 now and many times she says something and I tell her. Give me the phone number for Fordham. I want to call them and see if I could get my money back. :anguished-face:

She is a genius and knows all sorts of things. My wife and I can't play scrabble with her because we come up with words like Duh, Hi. What, When etc. And she comes up with Magnesium, Diphtheria, Mononucleosis or Taylor Swift. And remember, you only get 7 letters. :face-with-monocle:

But once she asked me how to wash a car, load a dishwasher or bait a hook. Those things are more important than spelling obscure diseases.

If a Millennium was on a deserted Island they would drink salt water and croak in 15 minutes. But if I were there I would build you a flat screen, color TV out of a leg bone from a seagull, part of a propeller from a 40 horse power, 2 cycle Mercury outboard engine, half a coconut and a hermit crab shell.

If it was a blue leg hermit crab, I would make it a Blue Ray Smart TV. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Have a question about Fenbendazole if you have any experience. I'm trying to kill off the GSP taking over my 90g. My concern is the resulting parameter swings along with running an RUGF system like yours. I have no idea what life is like under the plates and worry about the die off.

Not easy to get all 3 of these in the same shot

You ever gotten nicked? I hear waspfish stings are pretty intense!

I've threatened to return my kids to the hospital a time or two.

Jekyl, I have no experience with that. I found over the years that sometimes GSP starts to take over my tank, then it all dies and I can't grow it to save my life.

Just last week it started growing again. I have no idea why but I will let it grow until it gets to invasive then I guess I will eliminate it like I eliminated my invasive sponge. I put the rock outside here in the winter and it all froze to death.

You ever gotten nicked? I hear waspfish stings are pretty intense!
No, but I try not to touch them. I once got stung by a rabbitfish and thought I was going to die. I had my hand in the tank and he got scared and tried to jump out, but he gently brushed my thumb. Not good.

I also got stung many times by fire coral while diving. The name fits as you feel like you are on fire but nothing stops the pain.

I've threatened to return my kids to the hospital a time or two.
I agree, some of the things they come out with are so stupid I can't believe it's my kid. I didn't go to college but did pretty good for myself. I have always said, the more college you go to, the less common sense and creativity you have.

Especially college these days!

Do the people living in Alaska have all the days off because it's below freezing?

Only sometimes, but it has to be -50F or 20+ inches snow overnight :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Also for volcanic eruptions, fortunately not lately.

907_Reefer, I love it. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: I was only in Alaska once for a few hours on my way to Viet Nam. I guess we needed gas because it was a 24 hour flight.

I was stationed in Colorado for about 6 months and when I saw those 8' snow plows on the front of the trains, I thought OMG, that must be overkill.

Then winter came and I realized they could have used 13' plows.

I was driving an M-60 tank there in winter and the only thing you could see on the buffalo was the top of their heads. I didn't run any of them over. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I did my jungle training in Colorado. I never understood that.

It's 22 degrees here now , windy and pitch dark so perfect for my morning walk. I hope I don't see any Polar Bears. I don't run as fast as I used to. :grimacing-face:

So this morning, like all mornings I went for a walk. Normally I walk for about an hour and I go early, way before the sun comes up because I am walking for exercise and I think exercise is a waste of time so I want to get it over with before the world gets up so I don't waste any time. I am very impatient so my wife, and many people call me the Energizer Bunny although I rather think of myself more like Brad Pitt.
IMG_1921.JPG

Some people call me McGuiver while others just don't call me. :(

Anyway, a few weeks ago I had some back work done where the pain Mgt Dr. did an ablation on the nerves in my back.

They go in there with some kind of torch or toaster and burn whatever they can find. After that she gave me 16 shots of cortisone and maybe hydrogen peroxide but it could have been Coppersafe.

Those procedures made me feel about 74% better and I no longer scream or walk like a blue legged hermit crab. But the Dr. told me the procedure doesn't actually fix the pain. My disks and ligaments are still torn to shreds, I just don't feel it as much because the pain signals don't make it to my brain. They probably get stuck somewhere in between. Maybe my elbow or someplace that you don't need as much as your back.

But this morning during my walk, right under this light, the pain signals found a new route to my brain. My brain doesn't have much free space because it is filled with fish stuff, steam punk stuff, Pumpkin pie and supermodels.

All of a sudden, I hit the ground. I looked around to see if maybe my wife stuck a cro bar in between the ribs as it doubled me over and made me go down on one knee. (good thing it was my right knee because my left knee is titanium and it may have made a spark) Anyone driving past would have thought I was making a novena or praying for hair. But I wasn't.

It was just pain. I was thinking of who I could call if I couldn't get up and screaming wouldn't help because at 6:30 everyone is sleeping and if I woke them up, they would be screaming at me which would have made the pain worse. I didn't want to call my wife because she has MS and I normally help her. I imagine she could have brought me some chicken soup and I never saw a chicken with a back ache so maybe it would have worked.

I stood there, or rather knelt there for about 5 minutes and tried to get up. Nope, I couldn't move. I didn't want to stay there too long because it was very cold and icicles started to form on my nose. I slooooly made it up to a standing position and gradually put one foot in front of the other. I was only about 100 yards from my house so I stuffed my Very Manly looking red scarf into my mouth to muffle my screams.

It started to get light out and I gradually, but painfully made it to my house. I stood in the doorway for a time while I figured out how I was going to take off my boots, jacket, gloves etc. I couldn't stand there with all these winter clothes on because now I was sweating profusely partly because it is hot in my house and partly because of the pain.

I made it in and tried to lay on the bed. I couldn't figure out how to get on the bed so I called my wife who immediately knew something was wrong and started to make chicken soup. I said, no, just try to bend me slowly so I can lay down.

I was in the bed in a sort of pretzel fetal position and didn't dare to move. I asked her to bring me a tens pack. If you never had that it is a small device with wires and pads sticking out of it. You stick the pads on you near the pain and it shocks you. I don't know how it works and I doubt anyone else does but I imagine the shocks this thing gives you fools your brain into thinking that these shocks are worse than your other pain but I am not sure. I am an electrician so probably don't feel the shocks like everyone else does.

I had her stick these sticky pads on my back and I turned it on and tried to move. No, not yet so I turned it up and tried again. Nope, not yet. So I turned it all the way up until smoke started to come out of my eyes like those old western movies where the Indians used to make smoke signals to tell other Indians things like their internet was out or Lidel is selling brussel sprouts for 39 cents a pound.

I took some pain medication that I had left over from my last surgery and was going to rub that slimy stuff on that makes you smell like a Christmas tree. I didn't have any of that so I asked my wife to get one of those Christmas tree air fresheners that I had hanging on the rear view mirror of my car and hung it around my neck. That did the trick. :D

Hope you can move again soon. Pain is supposed to let you know you are moving or doing too much. You may have to slow down a little so that it does not come back that bad.

My back needs to get better because I just received a letter asking me If I wanted to be Honored for my service in Viet Nam with a bunch of other Veterans from WW2 and Korea. They will fly us to Washington DC on what is called an Honor Flight, where we will tour the WW2, Korea and Viet Nam monuments. There will be an Honorary Dinner and I assume some speeches and other things.

There is a chance I won't go because I think they ask more people than can fit because many of these guys are very old and may be to sick (or worse) to go. But I filled out the papers just in case. I am pretty excited. :D

I hope it's not on that plane where the door fell off. :confounded-face:

You need Vitamin K in your diet. I have extra i can mail you today. It helps with the humor too so I am not certain you need any? Get well Paul, and give yourself some rest so you can heal.

Thank you Kris. I can always count on you (and 3 or 4 other people) to read my scribblings.

My back is much better this morning as the narcotics I have that you stick inside your cheek (in your mouth) :anguished-face:, Christmas tree air fresheners, narcotic pain pills, sticky pain patch, sims electronic thing, aspirins, cold compresses, chicken soup and Vodka started to kick in.

I am afraid to bend, twist or breathe much so wearing shoes is out even though it is very icy and 18 degrees out.

I built this very cool drawer that will go under our bottom kitchen cabinets that opens after you touch it with your toe but I can't get down there to install the drawer slides. I probably can get down there but getting up is another story. A story I would rather not be in. :grimacing-face:

My wife needs me for just about everything so I try to stand erect like an arrow crab so she doesn't worry to much. This morning she reached for "Jumping Juice" that I make her that is mostly beet juice. She knocked it over and it went all over the kitchen, my computer, a letter I was writing to a Veteran organization, the floor, me and everything else.

The MS makes it so she can't feel much with her fingers so she can't tell how hard she is gripping something and she drops almost everything. :confused-face:

Of course I am in much better shape then her as my pains will go away whereas hers will just get worse. :worried-face:

Take the Honor Flight I believe you earned it just in your life as an electrician in New York!

I will bet you had a drill Sargent who told you to "get your back into it" more than once. You can thank the service by taking the flight. You will meet all sorts of interesting people who share your Honor Flight!

P.S . It is an honor and a joy to read your scribblings. Carry on!

Thank you Lowell. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

On another note, and more exciting for me, I just got a call from a Local Long Island News station. They may want to do a story on me and that 10 year old woman that wrote me a Christmas card while I was in Viet Nam 55 years ago.

They want to film the meeting of the two of us because I didn't meet her yet. They are calling her to coordinate it. Of course it could fizzle out and maybe they will do a story on another cat that got stuck in a sewer or fell out of a Boeing plane. I will probably find out in a few days.

All sorts of cool things happening this week.

My Father was able to take the Honor Flight a few years before he passed, He was USN, WW2, Pacific Theater. He was also called up during Korea, and got sent to the Arctic. I am so glad he was able to experience it. It was good for him to see that his country has not forgotten his, and so many others service.

Paul, you should defiantly go if you are able. Honor Flight is a good organization and serves an important, necessary mission.

Thank you for your service.
