Ok Ok . You will be Happy to know with your advice , and that of Atoll I have everything I need to make a 4 panel UG under gravel reverse filter except the pump. It will be in my new Tank coming soon.

For about a year I have been having this algae growing in my reef. It may be some sort of Bryopsis and I may have introduced it from the Long Island Sound. I have not collected water from there in a year or so because of the pollution that killed, or at least allowed all the life at the shore including amphipods to disappear, but I did collect amphipods this year when they came back.

I still won't use the water this year. I noticed this algae in a small patch last year and thought it looked kind of nice and it is macro and not GHA so I (stupidly) let it grow.

I am having a lot of issues with my wife's health now and she is many times in a lot of pain so we spend a lot of time at different doctors and therapists which leaves me little time to work on my tank.

About every two weeks I can pull out this much of the stuff. That is a quart bucket and the algae weighs a pound.

As I said, I don't have time for this and if I don't pull it out, it will cover my corals like my invasive sponge did 3 years ago.
I am going to try something that I am totally against and I feel it may crash my tank. I hope not now that the tank reached half a century old.

I set up a 10 gallon tub with 5 gallons of water in it and added a few large rocks covered in the algae along with a few large anemones. (that I don't like anyway)

I am using fluconazole in plastic tub as a test. As I said, I am totally against any kind of chemical and this algae doesn't hurt anything but it does cover corals so I either will have a tank full of seaweed what would be good for manatees, or I can keep corals.

If this test works, I will put the stuff in my reef.

Huge step cant you scrub it off like I have posted many times it took 6 months of that but I beat off an almost out of control infestation of hair algae has not returned in 30 years

A rabbitfish would likely eat all of that algae. Of course, once the
algae is gone, the fish would likely starve to death.

Nope.
As I said, I can get a pound of it out every two weeks, but thats only the very heavy stuff, the other stuff is stuck solid and doesn't come off not even with a wire brush.

And Nope for a rabbitfish. Tangs, snails, 2 urchins, sea hares, algae bleenies and crabs don't touch it. They just make funny faces when they go near the stuff. 😳

Remember, I have been doing this stuff from long before last Tuesday so I have tried a few things. 😎

Humblefish turned me on to this so if my tank crashes, I will definitely blame him. 🫣

Sorry should have said something about what your wife is continually going through . I am in that situation as well but not nearly as bad . hope she can keep her spirits up

Well I am testing fluconazole in a 5 gallon test so i will see how that goes. So far in 4 days, nothing happened but it is supposed to take 2 weeks.

For the last week I have felt that I had something in my right eye. I knew what it was because this has happened 3 times before. 4 of my eyelashes are growing towards my eye instead of the other way. They are very tiny so you really can't see them, but I can feel them.

I think there is so much real estate on top of my head that those hairs are trying to grow up to there.

Getting old is a lot of fun because you wake up with the weirdest things that you never heard of or saw in a Science Fiction movie starring Sigourney Weaver.

Anyway, it is annoying and I am tired of going to an eye Dr. who just plucks them out and then after 6 months, they grow back. I am a man and old so I don't really need "Bamby" lashes, and I wanted them permanently removed so I went to an Eyelid surgeon who removed a tiny pre-cancer thing on that eyelid a couple of years ago.

That doctor is no longer there, and I think he got a job in Home Depot in the plumbing aisle, so they gave me the "girl" eyelid surgeon. I went into the little room with the nurse that takes your vitals because you know, they need to know your blood pressure and heart rate before they pluck eyelashes, and everyone knows your eyelashes are connected to your heart. 😎

Also, they can't really bill too much just for a 3 second procedure.

A girl about the same age as my 14 year old Grand Daughter came in and said she was Doctor Lauren. I thought you had to graduate college then go to medical school and a residency to become a doctor and then more schooling to become a surgeon so she must be really smart, or she started medical school when she was 8.

I was pleasantly surprised that she was so nice and really seemed to know what she was doing. She informed me that she was going to "Inject" my eyelid with nonvaccine for this laser procedure. I have had that eyelid shot before and it isn't pleasant and not something I would do for a hobby.

I don't know what kind of needle could go into your eyelid without also puncturing your eye and maybe other things you may need later on, like your brain. ☹️

She put in the pain killer and positioned a laser on my face and proceeded to zap those lashes. The entire thing lasted about 4 seconds which was nice.

Then it was over and she said she would send a prescription to my pharmacy for antibiotic drops so I don't get any ich in my eye. (she forgot to send that so I have been using "Coppersafe and Prizapro" in the hopes that it will stop any infections.

I have to go back in 3 months for a "Tune Up". Of course I do. 😳

I don’t know why you just didn't use an angle grinder to remove them Paul. You must be going soft in your old age 😉

I know Atoll. My Son n Laws Father died last week so we have to go into Manhattan for this cerimony.

I really hate Manhattan and would rather be in a rice paddy in Vietnam with 15 NVA shooting at with AK-47s on full automatic while 6 leeches are crawling up my left leg and I have an itch. 😳

Manhattan sounds a wonderful place, NOT! I will remove it from my bucket list forthwith.
