Tank bullies- now what?

What do you do once you have a tank bully and they become a problem?

For me- Eviction time. Its time to go and find a new home.
Isolation - Give them a time out first and see if they after a couple of weeks have changed their attitude.
What do you do ?

Put a bigger fish in to bully the bully… attitude adjuster.. :grinning-squinting-face:nah just kidding… I try to stop them by spooking them through the glass.. no telling what happens when I’m not around.

I pull them out and they go into the sump until I can find a better home.

Tank bullies...no problem. This is where multiple tanks can save the day. One my clowns started to pick on the other for dominance so I just separated the bully into another tank .

Same boat as you @vetteguy53081. I have a Bristletooth that is being a jerk to my Foxface. I've tried one type of trap with no success. The Nyos trap looks like it might work, but if not you're out $70. Long ago, I made a really good trap with doors on both ends such that the fish could swim straight though. Once they were accustomed to that, I would pull the monofilament which would close both ends of the trap. May have to make another.

I try a mirror first than move to other measures.
For a persistent bully
Remove and rehome. In rare instances a bamboo skewer was thought about but never acted on.

I've used the mirror trick with success for mainly wrasses. I used the "net trick" (draping a net in one corner of the tank) to pacify another aggressor (worked; they're now fishy friends).

It goes in timeout in the sump for a couple weeks then back to the main display. Repeat offenders find new forever homes

I have a tomato clown who was a huge bully when he first joined, but with all the rockwork, getting him out to put in tank #2 was a bust. Instead, I moved the Ocellaris clowns to tank 2 and our sailfin tang has grown large enough to put him in his place when he gets obstreperous. We kinda thought it would be the Falco Hawkfish that would be the bully, but the only thing he hassles are the corals...loves to put his fins on the zoas, duncan & favia lol

Put him on ice if you can't find a home. My purple tang met that fate. This was 20 years ago before stores would take your bully

I have no tolerance for all out bullying but when it happens the perp is coming out in a fish trap or a body bag. Makes no difference to me unless it was an expensive fish. Then I sell him to another Reefer as a very peaceful fish.

I avoided getting rid of my beloved queen angel by relocating to the sump for two weeks. It doesn’t work with every fish but worth a shot if you like that particular fish lol.
