Tank cycle- white dots normal?

biocube with a 20gl sump and it's in week 3 of a cycle.
Ammonia was at 2PPM as of Monday night (have not checked it since).
Nitrite 0.00
Nitrate 0.00

Still at the start as ammonia is the only param moving at the moment.

What is this at the surface of my sump?

My guess is that you need more turnover or surface agitation, the water looks a little stagnant.

If there isn't much circulation, it could be salt precipitation

That could be as I have not purchased a skimmer yet.

I'll toss a power head in the meantime.
