How many of you have a tank fixation? 20 years ago I started with a 29 gallon tank. A heater malfunction killed all my fish and corals. So starting over I moved up to a 90 gallon mix reef. We from an apartment, to a condo and then to a new home. But while in the condo I added a Fowlr tank of triggers. So I had a 90 gallon and a 55 gallon salt water tank. Going from a 1500 square-foot condo to a 4600 square-foot new build, with a wealth of new possibilities so we added a 180 gallon wall built in tank. A year and a half later my company transfered us from Ypsilanti Michigan to North Port, Florida. I brought the 90 gallon aquarium and stand and all the fixtures and they literally rotted in my shed for 20 years. In December, I got the itch in January 2 days after my father had a massive heart attack. Working with a company called Finatics Aquatics in Port Charlotte and much research and major confusion. I took the leap. We installed a 90 gallon unit. All of this lead to my question how many of you have a tank fixation? The hobby has evolved immensely I went from a metal halides and 2 small suction cup wave makers, the plug in and go type, my 29 gallon aquarium became a sump, egg crate and bio balls became my filtration along with my skimmer and I did awesome. 180 Cichlid tank was off the chart, built into the basement rec wall. And it was stunning and everybody was amazed. Now I have Radion XR 15 pro lights, an Eshopps RS-200 sump, S-200 Skimmer, AI Nero 3, AI Orbit 400, AI Refeug Blade, Setia doser, 5” Mini Carbon reactor, BRS CO2 reactor, IceCap ATO, IceCap temp controller w/ titanium heater, Eshopps 5 Gal ATO tank, a 3 compartment holder for my chemicals, AutoAqua Smart Skimmer Security System, accustomed 3-D made skimmer attachment hooked to my CO2 reactor to help with my terrible pH issues. As for fish, I have 2 yellow tangs, 1 Midis Blenny, 2 Picasso clown fish, and 1 Adorned Wrasse. I won’t list all the corals but right now I’m mainly softies and LPS. I don’t know when and if I’ll ever decide to go to SPS, but I definitely have the equipment to do it. With all that being said and all those previous things and I never had a restless nights sleep. And now 20 years later and all of the new information out there and all of the extra help available I wake up in the middle of the night with concerns. The alarm went off the skimmer the other night 3 o’clock in the morning. It was awesome. I was excited. I thought it actually did what it was supposed to be doing and went back to bed and slept the rest of the night peacefully. But honestly 20 years ago it seemed a lot easier, so much technology. I don’t know that the hobbies gotten better. It certainly gotten a lot more complicated. If this is a version f you out there with the same feelings, let me know. I’ve added a photo of my new Reef, my old Cichlid tank, and my old 90 gallon mixed reef.
