Really starting to think I’m not cut out for this

tank is 5 months old and it’s been nothing but issue after issue

sick fish dispute QT

monti eating nudi dispite dipping and buying from reputable sources

tons of lost coral due to high phosphates

which brings me to my next new fun disaster

since my phosphates were so high and killed $300 worth of frags

I started reading about zeovit
I decided to try it and now I have a whole new mess on my hands

pretty sure these are Dino’s

Early today I was all proud of myself when I saw this purple in just rock thinking it was probably coraline algae

then I started reading and looking more and took a few pictures with my poly lab filter on my phone 757B5B19-0A6E-4191-9FDE-0E61AFE42339.jpeg 4CDD7CEA-E7AB-4370-B49F-CB6EA9BF4034.jpeg 9BF29B65-1911-4A8D-816D-18B6461FEBC8.jpeg

then I saw these bubbles

are these Dino’s?
I really can’t handle any more disaster with this

I have $12k into the tank
Details as follows

0 on all the bad
0 nitrates
Po4 at .05

pH is 8.4

8.0
450
1300

tank is a Red Sea reefer 450
Red Sea rsk 600 skimmer
With top of the line everything
Mp40’s in nutrient export mode
Vectra m1 Turning the tank 10 times an hour easy
Auto water change system with 200 gallon tanks plumped through the wall
trident doing auto testing etc
Kessil a360x x 3
5 stage RODI

Just goes to show
Money can’t buy success in this hobby
Anyone have any advice what the heck is going on now and what this is

#reefsquad

I'm a first time reefer and got a 180g as my first tank. I definitely wasn't ready for the start up uglies. I tried all kinds of chemicals to battle the uglies. I killed many a beautiful coral due to my impatience. You just need to hang in there and attack each issue as it comes. I'm 15 months in and just now feeling as if I'm taking care of a real reef tank! Best of luck!!

+1 on cyano. Hang in there my friend. There’s plenty of good threads on how to battle cyano. I’m not going to beat a dead horse with the aforementioned info. In the past I have tried to do too much in too short a window and it’s been detrimental to my aquarium. I have since vowed to keep everything as simple as possible and stick with the basics. Cyano is just part of new tank syndrome. Personally I do not trust the automatic water changes. I use siphons and pumps to do my wc that way I get as much detritus and waste as humanly possible. You can get this done! You’ll be a better reefer for it as well.

I am really tired of people saying I moved to fast
You know nothing of what is even in the tank

there are 5 frags in a 120 gallon tank that is 5 months old

WWC builds a tank and stuffs it with sps after 4 months
They have many videos on it

I have 5 frags in a 120 after 5 months and all Anykne can say is I “moved to fast “
Please tell me out of the info provided what says I moved to fast

everyone!!!!On here has coral after 5 months
But all anyone ever wants to do is criticize me

forget it

I'm at about the same stage as you. Agreed, 5 frags in a 120 is NOT going too fast.
I think some of the "too fast" sentiment is more in regards to you being proactive and trying to address issues as they present themselves.... possibly before the tank has found a balance you can reliably use as a baseline.... I'm not sure.

I won't offer any advise on what to do bc I know no more than you do.
Best of luck. I'm sure you'll pull through.

I understand your frustration. Take a deep breath...

I want to emphasize that no one here is trying to give you a difficult time. By nature, I think those of us in the reef keeping community are problem solvers. And, when we see a post like this, we're just excited to try and figure out the problem. This isn't to say that you don't get the occasional balloon knot who wants to blow up your approach. I suggest that you ignore those posts.

Be tired if you like, but the simple fact is that you are moving along too quickly. And if you are an impatient person by nature, this may not be the hobby for you. Try and remember that a reef tank isn't like a new flat panel TV. You don't just take it out of its box, plug it in and enjoy.

Think of your reef tank as a garden. Beautiful gardens don't happen in a day, they don't happen overnight. They have to be nurtured and cultivated into the beautiful colors and aromatic blends that you come to appreciate. Your tank should be approached in that same way.

I do hope that you heed the plethora of good advice you've received here. Where are you located? Is there a reef club in your area? If so, perhaps have some people over to look at your set up and make recommendations.

I had a mentor when I first got started in the hobby. He set me on the right path and I haven't looked back.

Good luck.
