I dosed my tank with plolyp-labs for the passed week.. three times a day, with the recommended triple dose, but since just about every fish is dead now except a blue chromi, fox face & a three line wrasse should I keep dosing the crap or should I just stop medicating? I’m going to give the fish to the LFS owner on Wednesday when his dudes come to do the maintenance. Currently I have a few coral & about four cleaner shrimp. It’s a 135 gallon Red Sea tank. Also, let me know if you have any recommendations on what I can add in, besides fish of corse and what can help speed up the ich cycle..

Thank you in advance

Firstly, I am very sorry to hear that you lost some of these fish.

I would be hesitant to offer diseased fish to your lfs without being very clear that they would need to be quarantined and treated with copper.

I would at least figure out which disease first. Ich they may still take them. But you might not should give them fish infected with velvet.

Do you see any signs of a disease? Velvet and ich both would have visual signs of white dots. Ich will have large white dots and is unlikely that it wiped out a tank in less than a week.

Velvet would cause the fish to appear as if it was dusted with powdered sugar. Tons of tiny white spots. And could certainly wipe out a tank this quickly.

However, I would hold off on dosing more of this stuff. What polyplabs product have you been dosing?edit: What is the tank volume? (Just realized this question was answered in the post)

I am not familiar with the products from polyp labs. But this information may help save the remaining fish.

The polyp lab may or may not have done something. Can you give any more information or a picture. Your other fish should be treated with a copper-based medication.

Couple spots is early ich. Lots of spots is advanced ich.
And multiple deaths would be advanced ich (but it seems more like velvet). And I would not use a product if there were even 1 spot on the fish - I would just treat everything.

As you found out, most reef safe meds simply do not work and at $40 for a very small vial, it can be quite a disappointment.
You first need to confirm which disease you are dealing with and MEDIC is mainly peroxide salts. Foxface and wrasse can endure hyposalinity but like not the chromis.
Your other option is coppersafe at 2.15-2.25 for a full 30 days and display tank has to be fishless especially with an outbreak for at least 6-8 weeks to allow parasite/protozoan to die off

Please post clear pics under white light intensity of remaining fish. Wha behaviors did you notice prior to loss of fish?

Here are some photos of the fish .. they all died during a week’s time.. keep in mind that due to the size of the tank and all of the rock work it wouldn’t of been possible to catch the fish ..

Erratic movements, a lot of grazing against the rocks. The fish were eating extremely well 3-4 times a day and I was dosing with garlic the way most recommended, but that didn’t do anything.

I know.. it sucks. I purchased 3 bottles of the garbage, since I have a larger tank. & unfortunately, they made sure to put no returned items will be accepted… lol. Also, it says coral safe, but it looks like most of the coral has dried out now.

This may be flukes. With flukes. . scratching, darting, loss of appetite, elevated breathing and lethargic behavior

Would flukes cause so many fish deaths ? If it is flukes, do I still need to go fallow ?
Flukes once they get into gills and given opportunity to reproduce can cause havoc within a tank as they are monogean flatworms and if Neobenedenia, they hang around the face, eyes, lips of host fish causing breathing issues and other problems

Thanks for the feedback. How would I treat that.. would it be same type of procedures as the ich and velvet .. leaving it fallow ? Should I get more three line wrasses to help with the flatworms?

It’s not the coral flatworms but parasitical which hooks onto fish and reproduce
This is assuming flatworms and treated with praziquantel (prazi pro)

How long has your tank been running? I use this info in disease tracking studies across posts, we try and discern average tank age in disease expression events where possible
