Tank or container for sump

Looking for 40-55 gallon tank or container for sump for 180 gallon Planet Aquarium Tank/Stand. The stand is 72"x24"x36"h.

I found a 55 at Petsmart that is 48"x14"x21"h. Seems too tall and wish it was more than 14"w
I didn't know if a 40 breeder was big enough but that fits much better.

I haven't seen anything else in this approximate gallon size. I am looking for a reasonably economic solution. Just checking to see if you guys are aware of any other options along these lines?

I HAVE USED both ACRYLIC sumps and switched to rubbermaid sumps for two reasons. One, two high end sumps made by name manufacturers leaked after leak testing after a few weeks, AND TWO, I found rubbermaid allows for easier upgrading of skimmers, that fit easily or reactors, AND THEY HAVE NOT LEAKED!!!

I thought about a rubbermaid type container. Can you point me to one that you would recommend about the right size?

I have a 55 for a sump and wish I had gone with a 40 breeder instead. You are correct the height is a pain. I would think the 40 would work fine for your tank.

60 breeder would be my suggestion, about the right sump volume for the tank, fits within the footprint, and isn’t so tall you’ll have a hard time getting access.

It’s also very easy to install glass baffles in, which can be economical if you have a glass store nearby.

If your local Petco doesn’t have one handy you should be able to order one to the store for their half price sale. I think Petco just calls this the 60 gallon - same height as the 40 breeder, just longer.

The extra area vs the 40 breeder also gives you a lot more tolerance for overflow leveling and back siphon when the pumps are off.

A 40 breeder should work great and also leave you plenty of room under your stand for an ato res, dosing in the future room for electronics etc

I used a 30g long DIY sump under a 180 and it worked well. I drilled a syphon break in the return and ran the sump level low enough it was able to handle the overflow when the return was off. A 40g breeder would have been perfect but I had the 30 already so I used it.
