This will be our 2nd tank after having a 140 (total system) over 20 years ago. Planning to keep live rock with sandbed, fish, inverts and soft corals.
We just had delivered a 180 gal., 72x24x24 Planet Aquarium and black maple stand. Should have about 220 g. system. We are in the process of filling it (our RO/DI is slow) but I have it about 1/3 full with 40lbs cured live rock, snails and crabs I had in a tub for the last couple of months.
Equipment:
60 gallon breeder tank for sump
3 Red Sea ReefLeds 115
Bubble Magus Curve Protein Skimmer
2 Jager Eheim Heaters with Inkbird Dual Wifi Controller
2 AI Nero 7 Powerheads
2 Sicce SDC return pumps
Planning to have a refugium with various macroalgae. I have some Chaeto in a temporary refugium right now.
About to order:
200 lbs sand + 100 lbs premium live rock from Gulf Live Rock
30 lbs Australian Live Rock from Tank Stop
(Already have 40 lbs. cured Live Rock)
We have a closet that we are able to set up with a 50 gallon brute trash can to mix saltwater and pump (under the house) straight into the sump for water changes. Going to have an ato and ability to drain the saltwater straight out of the tank for water changes.
Trying to keep it simple and low maintenance. Planning to feed high quality food (patterning after Paul B.) and no QT. Not here to argue about it, didn't do it for the 5 years I had the other tank and I'm more informed this time about food and the system so this is going to be my approach. Natural and slow.
Hoping to have a few tangs and reef safe dwarf angels, butterflies, clownfish and/or foxface. Also, wanting to try some wrasses, gobies (mandarin for sure when I have enough pods) and blennies. I never had any of these interesting smaller fish in my first tank. (We had several tangs, dwarf angels, a damsel or two and clownfish. Also, it seems there a lot more interesting and more variety of inverts than I had access to over 20 years ago. Looking forward to a tuxedo urchin! And a beautiful softies "garden". Hoping I went big enough (couldn't really go longer only taller) to get the fish I want.
