Hey everyone,

I have a 65 gallon tank that I just upgraded from a 33 about a month ago. Have two juvenile clowns, coral beauty and bristletooth tang. Yesterday noticed the tang and coral beauty struggling to breathe but the clowns and coral were fine so I moved tang and angelfish into a 15 gallon cube I’ve had running for a few months and they recovered overnight. Fish store didn’t have tests so I tested at home nitrites were 0 nitrates were low and ammonia was 0. Since then I’ve done about a 35% waterchange and put the tang back into the 65 and looks pretty lethargic again. Not sure what the issue is but it’s definitely frustrating to say the least. My only thought would be not enough oxygen in the water so I’ve had powerheads pointed at surface and added an air stone. Any advice helps thanks.

If the symptoms completely went away when you moved the fish, a water quality issue would be suspect, as if they had a disease, that would have moved with them and you wouldn't have seen any improvement. Sometimes though, moving an ailing fish will give it sort of a temporary "second wind" so you need to ensure that the symptoms did fully go away.

A good air stone can help if this is a low oxygen issue, and can help in a supportive way if this is some gill disease.

Can you post a video of the fish? Hosting on YouTube works if you can't upload a video here directly.

Are you keeping me an eye on your phosphates?

Yeah haven’t had any parameter swings, it’s been about a week since this started happening and I just bought a damsel to test if it’s alright again and he’s been going for two days so thinking it’s sorted itself out
