Would you trust a piece of furniture (sideboard not sure if the name is the same in the USA?) that the manufacturer has stated is rated to hold 100kg for a 30g tank?

30g of water + tank + lights etc is going to be a bit more than 100kg...

rule of thumb is 10 lbs per gallon, so 30 gallon tank is about 300-ish lbs, so it wont hold.

Do you mean when factoring in the weight of the tank and lights etc?

If so that would put me at 136kg, 36kg over the stated max weight...don't manufactures under estimate the actual weight these things can hold though?

water alone is almost 10 lbs per gallon. Need to factor in more weight for rocks and sand, and other equipment.

U sure its an aquarium stand and not an terrarium stand (those that hold a small layer of substrate and plant but mostly empty for lizards)

SW is also heavier than FW, + rock and sand a 30G will likely reach 400lb, or 180 kg

It's not an aquarium stand, it's a piece of furniture.

How about a pic of the stand? What's it made of?
A mix of solid oak and oak veneer.

I wouldn't trust that. Built differently with the side panels supporting the top from under would have worked but the way they built that, there's simply no support for the top excerpt for whatever held the sides to it ( glue or screws)

Looks like I need to rethink this!

Thanks.

Agree with others - When you look at the way that top panel is sitting, it looks like its just pinned into the side panels. I wouldnt trust it.

You could add extra support but is it worth it in the long run.

If those are drawers at the top. I assume they would get in the way of adding supports.
