Ok i would not directly transfer the sand, but you do not need to buy all new.

Put the rocks in sw, bucket rubber maid containers etc.

Then depending on how much sand rinse te sand in containers with tap water till the water runs clean.

Its up to you both options have pros and cons
Pros of changing sand
less risk of hitchhikers
possibly cleaner sand
less risk for diseases

Cons of changing sand
loss of beneficial bacteria
loss of potential good hitchhikers
potential for a mini tank cycle

Pros of keeping sand
keep beneficial bacteria
keep possible good bacteria

Cons of keeping sand
risk of hitchhikers and diseases
heavy to transport wet sand

Thanks guys, also what if i were to do a 50/50 or even 70/30 keep some sand and mix in new sand in the rest?
also Gareth Elliot im far to lazy to be cleaning out sand haha i rather just spend the 40-50 bucks to buy new sand.

Any thought on going bare bottom, i did get a chance to watch some BRS videos on ultra low maintenance tanks, they did say that AIO was the way to go for ULM but they did talk about how bare bottom was also a plus in this category, saying how after the first year the sand ends up just retaining all the bad stuff.
i personally hate the look of bare bottom always looks messy to me but it may be an option at this point
