Also is it fine if I continue running the carbon chunks in the filter? Or are these adding to the issue aswell?

there is a difference between activatex carbon (charcoal) and carbon dosing (which puts organic carbon in the water, like vodka and bio pellets). This can be confusing to the new reefer.

Your chunks are activated carbon and helping to keep the water clear.

Not all activated carbon is created equal, but for the time being you are good with what you have. If you haven't done so recently, replace your carbon. A good rule of thumb is to change your carbon (activated that is) monthly as the pores that trap stuff to remove from the water column get clogged over time.
