You want to put it in your tank so the bacteria can colonize on your filters and on your tank surfaces not in the mixing containers surfaces. I see your thinking though.

I should also clarify this isn't a mixing container. The ocean water I'm using contains some ammonia so I'm maintaining a reservoir of ocean water to pre-cycle the water before it goes into the tank.

Ok ;Bookworm,

What if I put some in the reservoir, wait 2 days, test. If there is no ammonia spike I add it to the tank?
You will know if it’s bad as soon as you open it. It will smell really horrible if it’s bad, I’m talking awful.

that sounds good also if the bacteria looks good to you when you add it to the tank turn the pump off for a few mins so that the bacteria can colonize your rocks and sand, then turn the pump on for the rest of the bacteria to colonize your filtration components.

It’s estuary water flowing into a port he said. Boats dump all sorts of junk into the water at port.

I used the word port very loosly, it is basically a beach that fishing boats come up to for unloading their catch.

Here is a picture of another port, this is basically what it looks like. We're not talking about big corporate fishing enterprises with large boats and powerful engines leaking contaminants. We're talking about a fishing industry that hasn't changed much in the past 500 years! I do not believe for one minute that this water is contaminated.

Lastly, it is not an estuary. It is nearly a mile, maybe more, from the river. I don't use the nearest supply because its known to be contaminated but this is directly on the ocean.

Here is the location so there is no more of this nonsense.

Oh I heard something about water run off from a lot of rain yesterday when we were talking about this. My apologies again.

Hey Ralph, you need to stop doing water changes and let the cycle progress. The only thing water changes are doing at this point is removing all of the good bacteria out and making your cycle take longer than it should. Raise your salinity to 1.025 and let the cycle do its thing. This is probably the best thing for your corals imo.

Collect from the Paradiso Del Sur Resort up north. that looks like a good spot, natural outcove, further from the river.

Relax, it was my fault for not communicating this properly. Yes it is rainy season. It hasn't rained in a few days but I'm sure there will be another tyhoon within a week or so. The rain here is insane!
