So you have a nano tank, now you have to decide what corals to put in that tank! The selection may (or may not) be different for a ten-gallon nano than for a 39-gallon nano, but you still need to decide what corals to add. Let’s talk about what are the best corals for a nano tank. Zoas are often on the list and maybe other softies and LPS. What corals do you keep in your nano? My nano before it was upgraded was quite full. A torch, a hammer, an octo, zoas, RFAs, montis, birdsnest, stylos, pavona, gorgonians, favia, cyphaStrea, cloves, macros...

Little less than 6 months since redoing my reefer 170 (34g) and I'm concentrating on acro with a couple of LPS and a monty. Not a coral but I added a blue haddoni as the center piece. Hopefully some of my acro will grow enough to draw some attention away from the nem lol.

My 5 month old 20g cube.
Mostly acros but I have a 4 head frogspawn thats doing well.
Only one scooter blenny 3-4 peppernint shrimp, emerald and hermit crabs and a few snails.

Mushrooms! I don’t have that many, but I love them! I also have GSP. And I have palys and xenia, but I’d love to get rid of them to make room for more mushrooms as well as LPS/SPS

That said I voted Monti! Hardy enough for a few mistakes, grow fast enough but not like a weed. . .

I have a pipe organ coral adding movement to the top of my 26 gallon tank that can take high light but shouldn't spread as fast as GSP or Xenia. I think growth rate is important to consider for anything you're putting in a nano.

Cyphastrea likes my bottom third and I purchased a floating rock frag rack from Reefing Art for my two goniopora so they don't kill anything. The natural looking frag rack is a great way to build an island and add depth to a small aquascape.

I just set up this 22 gallon FijiCube last month. The plan was to keep mainly Acros and a few others. I used seasoned live rock that I had bought in advance from Tampa Bay and had put in my main display to cure for a while as well as some newly purchased live rock from Gulf Live rock and a bit of CaribSea LifeRock .set up a modestly deep sandbed for eventual Gobies/Jawfish. Right now I’ve got the Acros, a couple Burning Banana stylos, 2 Frogspawn and few Gonis and a mushroom . The big coral on the rock is a Rose Coeal(I thinnk) that came with the rock.

I've changed this tank (36 gallon bowfront) up at least 5-6 times in five years. It started off as a mixed tank, went to a zoa tank, and now going back to a mixed tank.

Everything. I did pull the Xenia recently though. It was about to take over.

For me it’s goinng to be zoanthids, mushrooms and few sps such as montipora and acro on the top.

It could be whatever someone likes.
The only thing to keep in mind is space. Growing space and space from each other for stinging corals so you won’t experience any warfare since this could have disastrous effect in a Nano tank.
Always run carbon as well

Truth is I don't know what a "Nano" really means?
That caused me to check the web for clues where I found this:
Nano is a combining form or a prefix meaning "very small, minute" or "one billionth"12345. It is used in the names of units of measure, such as nanosecond or nanometer, and in the fields of science and electronics, such as nanotechnology or nanomachine1235. It comes from the Greek word "nanos," meaning "dwarf"4.

I think we maybe should be talking about "Nanos", aka Dwarf tank?

But "Dwarf" has recently been identified as a possible slur? So, I don't know what corals a Dwarf might want to keep but I will let them identify their preference for corals and stay out of this insensitive and possibly offensive discussion that is outside of my understanding and experience.

I used to like lps in mine, zoas, etc for their growth rate while slower growing things filled in over time. But the coral wars are brutal and constant in a mixed reef nano. This picture is from about 30 minutes of the digi laying on a cyphestrea.

I'm doing a 100% sps tank with my only questionable piece being a hydnophora out in the sand by its lonesome. Growth is slower obviously but way more rewarding. Watching the tank color up vs plopping in some color has been way better than mixed reef toxic warfare.
