Still down at mom’s. Hoping to be home on the 31st..I’ve been gone since July 24 and miss my family. It’s the longest we’ve been apart.

I hope everyone is well. Impossible to catch up after being gone so long. Maybe the “cliff notes” version??@Katrina71, how’s your dad?

Dad is at the end of life. I'm adjusting. Mom is in the same boat your mom was.

So...Hippie Kid submitted this for his meme of choice...

Just got word from my neighbor. Our neighborhood is pretty bad. All of the utility poles are down and he couldn’t walk across the street, but all the shingles on the east side of my house are gone. Down to plywood, but the house it is still standing. So I imagine the inside is a mess and we will have mold & mildew soon. He said we could not even get into the neighborhood right now until they remove all of the downed poles. I am three hours away and won’t be able to get home anyway until some cleanup is done to the roads.

My oak tree did not fall on the house and there was no flooding. I don’t know anything about my mom’s house. Thanks for all the well wishes. Looks like life will suck for a while.
Sorry to hear. We have storms incoming also

I just wanted to tell y'all how much you have meant to me during the most difficult times I have ever faced. I'm not so sure I could have survived it without y'all.
The same back to you

Hi all. Just checking in. I got on Angie’s List looking for roofers this morning. I filled out the online form and to my shock and amazement I got a call from a contractor in about three minutes. I have him my address and he looked it up on Google Earth and then sent me a quote based on a satellite program. The price was only about 25% more than my roof cost in 2004, so happy with that. Tan a quick check on them and plenty of favorable reviews. They also do fences and decks. So, looks like I already have a roofer. He said they could start on it tomorrow, BUT they can’t get down my street because of downed utility poles. He will go look at it anyway tomorrow.

Our mayor has asked that people not come back to stay yet. There is a ton of debris everywhere. Lots of roads blocked with downed utility poles and power lines. We can can look and leave, but I am 3 hours way.

From what I am seeing, just about every single building in town is damaged. Some totally destroyed. It looks like a huge war zone. Way worse than Rita was in 2005. The only saving grace is that they overestimated the storm surge and there wasn’t a lot of rain. So very little flooding here. The parish below us is even worse. This is truly the 100 year storm here. The last one like this was in 1918.
