I've seen sooooooo many posts where someone is selling torches for $275 to $400 and up.

They slap a fancy name on it and take a pic with blue light or use a filter to make the coral look slightly different but the problem is....
Is just a torch coral!
Nothing special about it at all.

It breaks my heart to see people on R2R activity trying to rip people off.

Torch coral is not the only coral I see people trying to catch unknowing suckers with but it has to be about the most egregious.

I'm not going to point anyone out or name names but it really is a sorry state of affairs.

I've seen folks try to sell single head zoas for $300 / $400 / $500

I would never try to take advantage of a fellow reefer.

I wish more people had that mindset.

I guess it's all about integrity. Unfortunately, not everyone has this vital trait.

It's a simple supply-demand relation. problem is that we have too many idiots with money to waste.
its common in all 'hobbies'
on Saturday I saw someone calling a $3000 GPU a great deal as it was on $170 discount. one step lower GPU (around 20% slower) is selling for $800.
companies like apple will go out of business if people start using common sense.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

With that being said, I have seen some torch corals go for $20 to Over $650 per head, the same thing with yellow tangs currently going for $750.

I too have paid over $1xxx for a Colony of wild collected rainbow acans. However, the pricing depends on the demand for a particular coral and the availability and most people will try to capitalize on this situation.

As @Thaxxx mentioned, people will pay if they find some value or can justify the price. However, I don't think its just in America.. The same thing happens everywhere.

Filters will never make a green torch gold just saying and the price reflects how rare they are

I have beautiful torches. They are large and healthy.
I would never sell them as anything other than a regular torch if I were to ever sell but let me ask...

How much would YOU pay for these?

By the way...
I'm NOT selling!
My reef is for my enjoyment. It's not a bank card.

Waiting for all of the "supply and demand", "If someone wants to pay",
"Its the American way" responses.
They're coming.......

The very next post LOL .... doesn’t mean they aren’t true if course. The reality is that this has been going on in the hobby forever, it’s just more apparent these days with online. Ultra clams at $50; Super ultra clams $100 .... gee, but they look the same .....

Think I’ll go with ‘a fool and his money soon go separate ways’; partly because it’s true and partly because I’m a big ELO fan.

I would pay $400 per head easy ;Playful :p

Please don't pay that much for ANY torch.
But if you must part with your money, I'm sure there are sellers here on R2R that would be more than happy to take your money.

I've bought torches that cost $300-400 per head and I don't regret it at all. They aren't like your cheap $10 torches. I have those as well

Not a dang thing in my reef is "cheap"!!!

I'm happy you are happy with your purchases.
I'm sure happy with mine.

Btw...
Pics or it didn't happen.
