Hey thanks so much! Its do for an update soon actually lol. There is only three cons I have with the overall system while not a dealbreaker by any means for me it might be for some.

1. To not VOID the warranty for waterbox you cannot drill into the stand.
-Its made it difficult to do a nice custom manifold with the hard piping versus soft tubing which I will probably end up doing creatively lol and hanging things hasnt been easy.

2. The stand is pretty much filled with Sump and ATO reservoir.
-They made the decision to have large socks area to be replaceable with a filter roller. The fuge and skimmer area is pretty large which is nice but all space is compensating for something else so it kinda cancels each other out.

3.This is probably the most controversial thing to date with atleast the Infinia systems from waterbox.
- This isnt a huge deal for me but it is for a TON of people. The overflow is not quite as some would like. The plumbing is like right in a grey area for the overflow box. the main drain is Kinda a little too tall and the emergency drain is too close to weir teeth of the overflow.

I have spent a long time dialing it in to where its almost silent. I did this and it became loud in the sump refugium baffle but once it runs for a while both quieten down considerably. Some have went to lengths of modifying the emergency drain with two 45 degree elbows. Which Im not sure if it voids warranty but likely.
Very good info. I have read about number 3 and number 2 was something I noticed that really turned me off as well. I could do with the sump being 12 inches or so shorter to fit more controllers. My plan is to just make a separate control box right next to the tank.

Also pretty crazy one drill hole would void a whole warranty. Go figure I guess! I just called tank installers/movers because mine is going downstairs. Any plans for a “tang gang” that was my whole reason for going with this over the 150.4

The Shade over the Reefi's

Morning,

Reefi Uno Pro 2.0's
I have added three Reefi's to the tank. They are very powerful and beautiful lights. They are making tons of algae growth despite running peak 45 watts. So we will soon get some Clean up crew added to combat the algae. I am having a difficult time taking photos from my android that look decent with the lights I don't have any sort of orange lenses just my S22 Ultra but, the only CON I have with them is there is some disco effect with light channels configured a certain way...

Reefi.jpg

The Shading
...ok so the back to the disco effect I was talking about. I used fusion 360 and made a Shade for the Reefi's printed on my Prusa 3D printer. I went to Lowes and bought a simple LED diffuser (Brittle stuff by the way) and slotted into my creation. I am going to include a before and after video clip of what I mean. Its hard to capture the improvement on camera but trust me its a TON better. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

P.S. Can you spot the fisher cat?

The White hand of the Reef?

Good Evening,

Unfortunate spots
It appears the white hand of Middle Reef was spotted (pun intended) on my foxface. Not entirely sure how this came about. As all the fish have been QT'd by Dr Reef and I hadnt added anything else to the tank at the time. It isnt 100% confirmed that this was ich but I'm about 90% sure it is and my foxface was trying its best to fight it off. No other fish ever showed symptoms of the "white hand" but currently all my fish are in QT tanks and my display is going Fallow for 76 grueling days. If you desire to read about the diagnosis thread you can do so here.

Blessing in a cloak?
On the brighter side of middle reef my copperband who was at first mostly eating only bloodworms. Has taken a fancy to eating LRS frozen food. Which I am absolutely stoked about!. He is quite the character he will grab a piece of the LRS in his mouth and shake it really fast really quick to tear it up. So hopefully he is going to get some nice fat stores... He is going to need it for the next update..... Here is a pic of him in QT.
20240502_071456.jpg

The Third Age of fish!
Middle Reef has had some newcomers show up at the local QT Tavern.

- Purple Firefish-
We have a purple firefish I always have wanted one of these little guys they are so grumpy looking its kinda funny. He is doing well and eating LRS TDO pellets as well as Bloodworms so he will make a nice addition to the reef.
20240425_190946.jpg

-Purple Tang and Convict Tang-
So one weekend I was traveling the northern road and went into my LFS and they had a special on tangs. Well my wife always wanted a Convict and I wanted a purple but was hesitant to add a purple with a Copperband. But I couldnt pass up the opportunity for a deal on both of the fish we wanted with the BOTH being similar in size. The Copperband is also bigger which should help with aggression... Maybe. So current plan is after full QT and Fallow. All fish will go in before tangs with purple being last and Convict Second last. Fingers crossed I can keep them as the purple tang is truly a stunning fish. Hopefully he doesnt turn into the dark lord of middle reef...

Sometimes I wish the Reef never came to me...

First, I would like to apologize to those who do follow this build its been a rough few months for this Reefer hence the title and quote from Frodo... I don't hide things as this hobby is rough sometimes and I have been super discouraged lately. This is going to be a sad update more or less.

Long fallow and QT
I have been fallow for a long time now after the ich outbreak and just coming out of it last week. All my fish have been in quarantine and medicated. As of right now the following fish are back in the main tank:

-My pair of Orange Storm Clownfish- They are doing good despite possible "clownfish bruising" read here.
-New Purple Firefish- This is actually the second one from the original as I lost the first randomly over night from bacterial infection I believe. I couldn't medicate the original as he was dosed with Prazi at the time.
-Pink Spotted Watchman Goby- picked this guy up recently and he is doing really well. See below.

20240815_133027.jpg

The following are still in qt due to one reason or another:

-Onespot Foxface- He is recovering from a battle from flukes and is doing really well scheduled to go in the tank next week.
-Purple Tang- He is going through hypo as I tried Prazi for flukes on him and I just couldn't beat it after 3 weeks of Prazi. Hypo has turned this fish around.
-Convict tang- I unfortunately also lost the first of this fish and acquired another. These fish are hard to get established and eating. This one seems like a survivor and is willing to eat more. Read about convict tang common problems here

The Weight of the Reef
It hurts me to say this but I lost my copperband butterfly. He was doing well but he and the foxface were in same QT Tank all of fallow. The foxface developed food aggression toward the CBB and I caught it but I had no room or a way to seperate and the CBB eventually stopped eating. Not sure why the foxface did this as he is literally the fattest fish. The CBB was eating LRS as well not just worms per a previous update.

Non Saltwater related heartbreak

My reef tank helper and family dog "Stella" passed away about a month ago. She was going to be three years old in October. She had eaten some kind of string and it ultimately constricted her intestines opened holes and she succumbed to the issue.

This along with my fish losses has absolutely destroyed My family and I. She was a Black Labrador Retriever. Please enjoy my top three pictures of her. :smiling-face-with-tear:

So sorry for your losses, the dog is a gut punch. I had a friend with a chocolate lab, he had abdominal surgery for intestinal blockages due to eating rocks. God only knows how this didn’t happen to my golden retriever, he ate so many socks over the years.

Yeah she went through one surgery and got it removed did great after about 24 hours the holes opened again. She went septic and she was gone before the vet could attempt the second surgery.

She was a great dog but she ate everything. She didnt really chew stuff up just ate whatever she could fit in her mouth and swallow.

Man, sorry! That’s really hard. We lost our golden doodle earlier this year and are missing her.
This thread does rule them all. And if I may say…There is some good in this reef, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for =)

I'm sorry for the loss of your dog and fish. My small-breed dog is pushing 14 and I know his time is closer than I would like to admit to myself. I hope you heal from the losses quickly.

The Coral Shire

Happy Friday!

Humble Beginnings
I have to admit a secret I have had these corals since fallow. :face-savoring-food:

Welcome to the ever growing update of the coral shire!
This chapter will put into motion the mixed reef aspect of my build.

For anyone that is curious what I keep my parameters at...

Here is what I strive to keep them at or around at least
Temp-78f
Salintly-1.025 Sg
Ph- 8.2
Alkalinity- 9.2 dKH
Calcium- 425 ppm
Magnesium- 1275 ppm
Nitrate-less than 20ppm
Phosphate- 0.02 ppm

They have grown some but enjoy some pics of my frags. They be little but humble!

One of these is not like the others
Somehow an aiptasia got smuggled into the shire probably those filthy orcses...

He has been promptly disposed of using F Aiptasia. First time using this product I haven't seen anymore but I have no doubt they linger in the darkness
I will suck out the shell after about a week

The Cleaning of Mirkreef

Good Afternoon reefers

I want to apologize that I dont update this build often. I only update with big changes and chapters to fit my theme as I enjoy this format.

"Mirkreef Part 1"
I wanted to showcase a cleaning of the tank with a before and after FTS. Enjoy the satisfaction of new clean glass. I also added a dozen more astrae and cerith snails as my Hermit crabs have been killing them. So all hermits larger than a nickel have been move to sump as keepers of the chaeto.

dirtyfts.jpg

cleanfts.jpg

a dozen cerith.jpg

a dozen astrae.jpg

Mirkreef Part 2
So I have a little predicament of nastiness that has taken a foothold in my reef tank. Once a beautiful reef now tainted and turning into Mirkreef haha. Anyways I have had a outbreak of aiptasia either way of a frag plug or snails. I tried F aiptasia and while it was doing great the aiptasia was in places hard for me to reach for precision. I have taken care of 6 or so individuals but they kept spreading so to counter the pest.

Release the Bhergia!!!!

I got 5 as a starter colony for them to chow down and clean the reef of this pest. Pics attached before they were released into the wilds

Coral shire update

I have a couple new additions to the coral shire. 1 trachy of which I got for a great deal he is smaller but has already almost doubled in size. I also have 1 Acro that has encrusted over the plug.

I did have two other acros that were doing great had new tip growth but never encrusted then all of a sudden they died to rapid tissue necrosis. I always dip with CoralRx and even tried to dip before complete die off but it did not stop it. So if anyone has tips for RTN let me know :)

Great update. Wish I had advice for the Acros. Perhaps they need a bit more light of Eärendil!
I did try to move one higher up but either too late or didnt help.

My par is around 200 were I had them so they definitely could get more light most likely. I really need to get my own par meter rather than borrowing one from people.

Depending on the specific species, they may be intolerant of lower light or may adapt OK. e.g., my slimer is pretty robust, although I'm fairly certain it is getting a bit closer to 300 than 200. Flow is quite important with these guys. And my Go-To for any health-related issues in my SPS (and also LPS to certain extent) is to dose Fiji Mud into the tank. The Walt Smith stuff isn't available anymore, but AquaForest Life Source is also from Fiji waters, although it has (allegedly) naturally occurring magnetic particles (definitely) in it, so you really should pull those out with a strong magnet before dosing into the tank. Scrap that idea if you're worried about bristleworms, because I'm pretty sure there are loads of bristleworm eggs in Fiji Mud. Still, the corals seem to really like it.

Interesting I have not heard of fiji mud and will atleast look into it.

And just to confirm I THINK it was RTN for the acros. I had a yellow acro that it looked like it skin peeled completely off over 24 hours. It was like the acro was painted and the paint was peeling off is how I would describe it.

Like I could hold the skin in my hand it was pretty odd.
