Both products are good. The advantage of the Neptune ATK when connected and controlled by the Apex is that you can coordinate the ATK functionality along with other devices in your Apex-controlled environment. For example, when you initiate a Feed Cycle and shut down pumps temporarily, you can program the ATK sensors to ignore the higher water level until after the Feed Cycle has completed so it doesn't send you unnecessary high water alerts. Additionally, you can leverage the two ATK optical sensors for other purposes such as auto water changes, or connect additional sensors for monitoring your ATO reservoir level or a leak sensor.

I have ATKs on both of my display tanks & the Duetto on my frag tank and by far the Duetto is cheaper, less maintenance and quieter. I've had the ATKs for 3+ years now and have replaced 4 optical sensors & 2 pmup pumps. Granted 2 gen ATK parts seem like a great improvement but if they fail again they're getting replaced by the Duetto

I have no personal experience with the ATK.
What I can say is over the years I have read VERY few negative reviews on the osmolator. Whereas while researching equipment for my current build I read multiple reviews of the ATK that ultimately caused me to decide against incorporating it.

I purchased the ATK for a new large system, and it actually went into my existing Red Sea S650 first.

I didn’t work and this is the new version. Neptune systems were very good, but every part had to be replaced individually until it finally worked. The replacement pump arrived, and the impeller was jammed. All of this didn’t give me any confidence at all.

Its been working faultlessly since then to be fair but would I get another. No.

So what did I put in the big tank? The Tunze Osmolator of course.

Tunze 3155 is without a doubt the best ato available. You also get Tunze USA customer support, fixed many units for me for free after taking a dive or what have you.

Another vote for the Tunze 3155.

If you don’t have an Apex then the ATK wouldn’t make much sense (IMO). I hope to get an Apex or GHL later this year. And while the Tunze won’t integrate as smoothly as the ATK. My plan is to simply turn off the Tunze anytime the sump would trigger an alarm (feed mode, water changes, etc)

Had two ATK’s. One connected to my Apex and one stand alone. The one connected to my Apex would never work properly. I spoke with Neptune multiple times in an attempt to get it to work. No luck. They sent a new brain but still wouldn’t work right. The stand alone seems to work better and really haven’t had any issues with this one. I did switch to Tunze and it’s been rock solid. Tunze is a well known and trusted product for years.

Tunze is great but the best is spectrapure. The conformers haven't tried both yet. :)

adding to your sample size: I own 2; I’ve had issues with both ATK’s:
- errant “fossil” code (neptune support found it)
- bad optical sensors, or short lived sensors, supposedly fixed with newer versions
- the fill line exit hole is VERY small, watch for clogging even if using RO, doesn’t take much
- the pmup pump is good for about 1yr but is inexpensive ... cable isn’t very long ...good luck finding the 3 conductor m/f extension

Spectra Pure ATO. Had the Apex ATO but switch to the Spectra pure.

I've had two Tunze's, one ATK and one TMC (a crappy English thing, almost as bad as the ATK).They all failed, repeatedly.

I'd say the Tunze was the best as it lasted longest before failing, the TMC next best because it was cheap and the Apex worst because it made me come close to actually burning my house down in sheer anger and frustration at the balls of this company to actually sell such rubbish.

Nowadays I use a thing called gravity which supplies RO through the Apex float valve (the only part I kept after throwing the rest in the bin). This RO comes from a 20L container that wouldn't be enough to harm the tank if the float failed. The RO container fills automatically when empty via a 12v solenoid that comes on automatically for 20 minutes each evening. I'd notice if this failed. Total cost? About £20. Am I rambling again? Sorry, Apex does that to me.

+1 for Tunze for sure. The replacement pumps are dirt cheap, easy to find, rock solid.
