I think others with similar size tanks get by with two mounted lengthwise.

How many would be needed for a 44" x 19" x 16" tank? Would two be sufficient or 3? Tank will largely be nems and SPS.

Two would be enough. The lights will pretty much be blasting 16 inch of depth.

Also the aquascape is planned to have like 6” of sand on the ends so really my coral/nem footprint is like 32”. I guess I could always add a 3rd if needed, but building a custom light mount to look like a wall sconce so knowing how many I need now saves me some rework!
