This is a simple iPhone picture, but I love what the fish are doing in the photo. When I do maintenance, my wrasses are completely indifferent and don't hide. In fact when I scrape algae, my C. Lanceolatus follows me around to eat the film algae as it floats away. When my hand is in the tank he come right up to it. I'd say wrasses have got more personality than any other fish.

When they transition like that does that mean most of their needs are being meet?
In what context? (I know what you mean, but the answer could literally be yes or no depending on such)

Ultimately, all it really is, is responding to the environment. There are no males around, so the first female to transition is then the new male. And there are no other males or females around to disagree with that one's effort.

So on one hand, no - it's needs are not being met and it's trying to take care of that (unbeknown to it, with futility).
On the other hand, yes - it's healthy enough for this venture.

Just noticed yesterday my cf. pylei female is starting to transition. I've had her since June and watched her at Petco for 2 months before buying her. She's starting to chase the dominant Filamented-ish flasher so its good to see him getting a taste of his own medicine.

Man, I'm so mad. I had the tank covered and the Naoko still figured a way out. I caught him flopping on the ground the first time. The second time I wasn't lucky and found him on top of the netting, stiff and cold. Jumped twice within an hour. I am so upset with myself, I just don't even know how to express my frustration. Part of me thinks I should've used acrylic sheet to cover the top, but then I was afraid the wrasse would kill itself knocking into it like my chromis. This hobby is so frustrating sometimes.
Sorry bro. I've had my shark fin jump when I was feeding so I got lucky. Find that opening so it won't happen again!!

I used the 1/4 to 3/8 netting I found at Lowes to build the top. When I get my tank finally setup, I'm going to use the 1/8 netting. Hopefully that will stop any fish jumping unless I take the top off for feeding.

Even though Bertha (she was so fat she seemed to fit this name and no, I don't name all the fish, just the ones with the biggest and best personalities) is the biggest pig and beggar she's a pain in the butt to get a pic of. She's in a basically fish only with live rock tank with a ton of caulerpa so it's a huge fuge basically. The wrasses love it. Sorry they pics aren't great, but she has more dark on the back end of the dorsal now than she did and she's a little maybe darker overall, and has almost entirely lost the caudal spot. The weird thing is that almost at the same time a small female rubripinnis is also heading toward male, probably because I added in the female cf. lanceolatus in the acclimation box Saturday and changed the dynamics. I noticed for the first time that the rubripinnis had both black and a bit of blue on the caudal spot when riled up a bit.

Attention wrasse freaks! DD has a bunch of nice fairy wrasses right now. I saw rhomboidalis, kaoti, bathyphilus, cf. lanceolatus, katherinae, rubrimarginatus, jordani and scottorum! Haven't seen that many harder to find wrasses on there in a while!

Man, I wish my QT wasn't full.

C. lanceolatus or C. cf. lanceolatus? Big difference in price and personality.

Not sure which one I have. I got mine labeled as "pintail wrasse" at the LFS. He's pretty docile as far as personality goes. Never bothers other fish and really gets along with the other wrasses.

That's C. cf lanceolatus, they are a smaller, more peaceful species. C. lanceolatus is larger, significantly more expensive, and more aggressive. C. lanceolatus is rarely available in the U.S.
