anyone here had experience with the peliciers wrasse from the Mauritius? I had one that jumped through the mesh, almost quit the hobby after the incident.

I have, they seem to be a slightly harder Halichoeres both to keep and get hold of. If you have anything stressing it or it has any reason to do the Up and left or Up and right trick (I’ll try find a diagram of what I’m on about) they do in the wild, chances are they will be rebounded into the water but there is a small chance it can slip through the mesh.
Care level I would say is rather close to the iridis (Halichoeres iridis/Radiant wrasse) in which they are more sensitive to shipping, I’d love to see another one soon.

Unfortunately no, this was in an LFS I worked in and he was in our main display. These fish are certainly a pretty species of wrasse and if I had to replace my jade it would be between this fish and another iridis to try get a pair. Unfortunately I can’t find much on their max size and I can’t remember the size of the one I owned in the LFS.

Hi, my fav wrasse is the female blue star leopard wrasse. Would love to have 2 wrasses in my tank. What other small wrasse would get along with the blue star? I have the waterbox 105.4 frag. 48x24x16 high. I won't purchase any wrasse until I get my ClearView lid. :-)

I’ve had it the opposite way around, I often find that it’s lucky if you get a non-Ctenochaetus that isn’t aggressive to wrasses. If you have an Acanthurus that’s not aggressive to wrasses or similarly shaped fish (Tilefish being a big one) then that’s just luck. I don’t think I’d ever try a femininus or most Anampses with a different tang (Mine just looks at the fish in my tank and leaves it alone, no matter the species of fish or body shape). I think the more aggressive Halichoeres would be alright around an established tang or an aggressive Cirrhilabrus/paracheilinus.

Actually I have 3 non-Ctenochaetus tangs. Two Acanthurus and a Zebrasoma (yellow) and none of them have bothered any fish except tang shaped fish. I've also kept a purple and even a wildly aggressive (to other tangs) Caribbean Blue tang. They've always been in with multiple wrasses (including an Anampses chrysocephalus) without any issues.

Interesting that our experiences are so wildly different. I've also shared this experience with members of our local reef club and their experience closely matches mine. Weird.

Well it depends on what you’d want the other wrasse(s) to do for you. By this I mean, add activity to the tank, help with unwanted animals on coral/rock/sand, adding colour ect…

(I have the same tank) I went by order of aggression. Yes! you can have multiple wrasse in one tank. I have 3, Melanarus, Timor and a carpenter flasher , they actually get along awesome, tend to school together as well. I will be adding one more wrasse in the future. now that I think about it, all my fish pretty much stay together actually.

I currently house a yellow coris, red coris, melagris leopard, melanarus, black leopard, and a pintail fairy(Sorry I skipped the scientific names, and just used the common hobby names).

Acclimation boxes work wonders for introducing new wrasses to already established wrasses.

Yeah, I think it was 1 out of 5 tangs that didn’t care about new wrasses. certainly interesting to hear different experiences though!!

There’s nothing more true than this!! If I don’t manage to find a small (0.5”-1”) black leopard then I’ll probably grab either a small pink streak or a possum for my nano. I’d prefer a small black since it’s one of my three dream wrasses of that genus, hopefully if I get one I can get Atleast a 2.5’ tank before it gets too big but if it does get too big I always have an option of a 4’ tank temporarily.

The wrasses I’ll wind up with eventually with my BSLW are:
- Naoko Fairy (These two already get along perfectly)
- Black Fin Fairy
- 2 Lubbocki Fairies
- Radiant
- Jade (If it wasn’t taken back due to aggression and replaced with something else from that genus)
- Black or Meleagris Leopard (If I ever find one and it has no other option)

Well the red corris is still chasing the new black leopard. It's getting less and less, but still enough that the black has only been out for probably like an hour this entire week.

Today is the longest she has been out(10 to 15 minutes), and luckily I've been home so I have been able to get her to eat when she is out.

Couple more days, and I think the red will finally leave it be.

I love that wrasse but it’s just VERY expensive over here (I’m pretty sure it’s around the price of a 2-3” Gem tang.. which is £1,300) compared to its live span of 5-7 years.

Well the red corris is still chasing the new black leopard. It's getting less and less, but still enough that the black has only been out for probably like an hour this entire week.

Today is the longest she has been out(10 to 15 minutes), and luckily I've been home so I have been able to get her to eat when she is out.

Couple more days, and I think the red will finally leave it be.

That’s great news, fingers crossed when I let my first leopard into the tank with my jade - Although that’s possibly a few months/years down the line - it’ll go smoothly and the Jade won’t be a b***ard.

Yeah, it really does… if their price wasn’t quite so high maybe I would give it a try eventually. The price for a hooded fairy is shocking though, I thought they were quite high but really they’re not much more than most fairies.

Quick question. I got an awesome yellow spotted leopard wrasse (M. negrosensis) yesterday. Good size and looked healthy. Of course she was NOT AMUSED and dove straight in the sand. Unfortunately she chose the front of the tank, where I only have a very thin layer of sand. Part of her was exposed and one of my crabs started nibbling on her flank. Still buried, she immediately pushed herself partially underneath the liverock. I think there's still some space between the sand and underside of the rocks where she's buried.

I know digging up a buried wrasse is stressful. But, will she be able to get out by herself? Or should I try and chase or push her away from the rocks?
