A new addition today! I make a weekly pilgrimage to the local importer I deal with. Came home with this fine specimen. The Halichoeres melanurus I have quickly established pecking order and that was that. Totally cool looking fish.

Yup aka christmas wrasse

At this point I'm up to 6 wrasses:

Halichoeres claudia - christmas wrasse
Cirrhilabrus cyanogularis - blue throat fairy
Halichoeres melanaurus - melanaurus
Pseudojuloides splendens - splendid pencil wrasse
Coris gaimard - red Coris wrasse (transitioned adult)
Cirrhilabrus lubbocki - Lubbock’s fairy wrasse

I'm considering another wrasse or two then stopping there. Suggestions?! Display is a 120g w/ rockwork and sand.

Good at this point, real active and eats like a pig. Its El Gordo after a LRS feeding, thus the distended belly. You tube clip, its too quick to photograph!

Edit: clip is good on my end, let me know if its working please.

Ooo ive been considering a pencil wrasse but I haven't seen too much info on them so far.
As for suggestion, I'd do a type of leopard wrasse or a blue flasher wrasse.

I can help if you have any questions on the pencil. The colors are starting to come in now after almost a month of pretty chill environment and lots of food. I feed either rods, LRS, or frozen mysis/brine with selcon. The pencil is even eating pellets when I'm not feeding frozen. I try to get everyone on pellets since I travel a bit for work.

Nada out of the usual. Came home eating Mysis, and its a sand burrower. Otherwise nothing out of the norm or diffcult to care for.

Awesome, are they good shippers? If they are then I might get one on my next import of fish. Im giving up on importing leopard wrasses, haven't had one survive import yet. The 3 times ive imported them, they always arrived doa unfortunately

I purchase directly from a low yield pacific importer. I want to say this one I had came from the Philippines, but I can inquire next week. He has a few still in stock iirc and from what I understand they ship with a fairly decent survival rate (however that's considered).

My guy knows my tank stocking fairly well, so he is usually helpful with stocking options or suggesting fish that he feels are hardy and are interesting. I got the fish after a month observational QT. I run a ich management tank with a total of 80 watts of uv on 120g display and the little guy has done great.

[A Young Reefer]

A very random post but I would like to share images of a specimen of Halichoeres pelicieri. I consider them rare since this is the only specimen I ever got across. Unfortunately it was small enough to jump through the mesh lid on my tank. Very beautiful fish.

Pelicieri is a beautiful species, one I’d love to care for if I wasn’t hunting for a tilefish.
Here’s a couple photos I got earlier under just sun from the window, the red in my naoko really pops but I wish I could get the black in his dorsal/anal fins back without having to move him into the 4’ tank too soon.

I don’t come across them often but have seen a couple in the past. Have you got plans for one in the future? If so try see if anyone online can find one for you or an LFS.
