The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Went to feed the exquisite yesterday, popped open the lid of the acclimation box, and out she jumped, right onto the floor! Threw her back in the box, but forgot to close the lid.

So she is swimming around quite happily, and my other fish could care less. She's actually hanging out with the anthias. Don't think she is used to a reef tank flow, as she keeps just getting blown around. All new fish seem to act this way in my tank. Could be just the massive amount of flow I have for the SPS? After a few days, they seem to act fine and can swim against the current.

Glad that worked out seemingly. You're the reason I used the acclimation box for my new wrasse though so far the only fish showing interest is the cleaner.

I was told to use an acclimation box many, many years ago. Specially When introducing new wrasses to an already established gang.

It has always worked out for me. You can tell nearly right away if any of the established gang is going to be a jerk. They will start attacking the box. If they leave it alone, and are not bothered by the box, the introduced fish 99.9% of the time will be fine.

Hi! I think it should be ok but just wanted to ask,

I currently have a yellow coris wrasse (juvenile)
And a mccosker flasher wrasse. (Introduced at the same time)

My lfs has a lovely Exquisite wrasse, would he get along ok with my other wrasses?

Assuming you have a reasonably sized tank then definitely! Great thing about wrasse is they get along well with eachother generally. Those are 3 different genera so there should be no issues whatsoever.

Well, we lost power for roughly 10 hours the other day thanks to an ice storm. Almost everything made it just fine, except the black leopard wrasse. She decided to spazz out when the power came back on and swam headfirst into the longspine urchin.

In other news though, I picked up a couple new wrasses today. One of my LFS has been getting a wider variety of wrasses in lately, so I stopped by today after they got their new shipment. Came home with a really nice female Macropharyngodon marisrubri and a Pseudocheilinus evanidus. Hoping the evanidus behaves itself, but I can remove it if necessary. It seemed to be getting along well with the other fish in the store.

We've also decided our 75 gallon isn't going to be upgraded into the empty 100 gallon. Instead we are going to upgrade it into the empty 180 gallon, and I'm going to try and find a used 8' acrylic tank to upgrade the bigger wrasses and other fish in the FOWLR. Great reason to get a few more wrasses for both tanks.

I figured as my naoko has been on a displaying spree today it was time to whip out some photos… Although the naoko has taken the centre today!

That chloroptosaurus looks like a porpoise its getting so big.

He’s getting big alright!
He’s now larger than my Sinularia brassica which is around 5”.

Its just the camera. Honestly so many people here spend thousands on their tank but think they can get great photos on their phones. My camera is a canon rebel T6. It costs a couple hundred nowadays and whether its a fish zooming around the tank or a cheetah at full pace it will get you that shot.
