Anyone here have pics or own a multicolor lubbocks fairy wrasse? Im letting my gf pick one fish for my tank and she liked a picture of that one. Was kind of blurry and close up though. From what I can see the colors differ greatly.

Here’s both my variants of Cirrhilabrus lubbocki.
The top is my Indonesian Variant and the bottom is my Cebu Variant. There are some that come in and are hybrids of the two variants with the purple/blue line of the Cebu variant and the base colouring of the Indo variant. The hybrids can also come in looking more like the Cebu variant with a bright yellow dorsal and anal fin.

Here’s two photos from a quick search of both sides to the hybrids.
Note; The dark line below the dorsal, that’s the trait of the Cebu variant.

Note; the yellow/orange colouring is the trait of the Indo variant.

Well, never thought I’d have a wrasse be my first thing to breed in my tanks! Always thought it would be clowns but I guess I’ve created the optimum environment for my pinkies :)

Not yet - The female is still looking fat.
Unfortunately in the same tank I have a Mandarin now so the fry/eggs may not make it.

They do gain colour as they age however the Cebu and Indo Variants won’t look like eachother unless it’s one of the two hybrids. Females of both variants look identical but when they mature and age they’ll transition and start to show the male colours and what variant they are.

Think I got Madagascar order 17 days ago. Haven’t saw Viviens come out. The new sand has diatoms so I can see if she comes out as it leaves a small white area. Started to think maybe a crushed her moving rocks to get the other viviens out. Came him from being gone 2 days and Vivien is out and hunting. Hemi is hiding and looks so scared of the little leopard. They are such baby’s

Finally home if just for a day. My wrasse report is luckily almost all good.

• My timor has gotten a massive belly and has definetly become the dominant wrasse despite being smaller then the Iridis
• The YTTW aka A meleagrides is eating really well but worryingly skinny. Don't think its skinnier then before I left but most of my fish put on weight fast.
• Yet to see any change in the patterns of any of my wrasse including the leopard or lunatus. Glad my leopard hasn't gone male still.
• In the other tank my red coris has finally started showing some growth and I think is starting to transition. Hopefully can get pictures tomorrow.
• Finally the cleaner is still as bold as ever and I think it may be helping my other fish be less timid.

Appreciate the thought. Im going to try a large water change and see if she pops out. Not sure what happened.

On the other front, the babi may be a pig but the choats is a total hog. Eating everything in sight. Will move them this weekend hopefully.

I’ve been thinking about getting a yellow tail but from what I’ve read is the typical poor shippers and can be difficult to feed. Any insight you can share about this wrasse?

Definitely a fish I want to see eat before I buy. If it is shipped ask if the seller can include sand in the bag.

Mine did not ship well at all. You can scroll back a couple pages to see my adventure with one, thought it was dead when it arrived.

It has since perked up to be quite the boisterous little fish.

For got to mention....

Mine came in nice and fat. Took to pellets within a week, and mysis about a week later. I have a very old established tank, so it had plenty of food until it learned to eat prepared.

It now will eat pretty much anything I put in the tank.

Not really as it is my first. I ordered the iridis but my guy at Reefbeauties.com emailed me that some of theirs were dropping for no apparent reason so he didn’t want to send since considered expert so doesn’t have their 15 guarantee. So I opted for this one. I asked him to send in sand, but he said they don’t like to do that so I said ok. All three came in and were active in the bag. Only the Fuji was diving the bottom. Yellow tail came in very active in the tank and didn’t hide for a while. Now I haven’t seen any of them and assume they are in the sand. I’m feeding rotifers and live brine, guess we will see.
I do know that what I get from them has been very healthy, I’ve gotten like 14 tangs from them and never gotten ich on a one.
I did only observation to start, and without a single dot I added the first groups into my two reefs. Added at same time for get along ability. So I highly recommend them.

The team had it in their mind (which I appreciate) to put a few aside for me to add some colour/interest.

Doing some research I’m confused as to whether they are reef safe or if they will decimate my snails.

I have a variety (turbo, dove, zombie) that I would prefer to not impact.

Should I politely decline?

All Macropharyngodons are reef safe. They must be kept in a reef in order to thrive. They don’t usually go after any inverts, snails they normally never touch. They may eat a shrimp of its small enough though. If you want to add some Macropharyngodons then a stable copepod population(s) must be something already established in your tank, along with other microfauna. Leopards burry in the sand and tend to stay hidden the first few days in a new tank. What Leopards were you interested in?

I wouldn’t decline however first thing is;
What is a ‘Green Leopard Wrasse’ I think I know a ‘Red Leopard Wrasse’ and believe that Macropharyngodon choati as we call them the same thing over here.

When we figure that out we can give further advise unless anyone else here knows what species the LFS is on about.
