Apparently in general pencils are bad shippers, so the LFS usually dont bother with them. The guy I deal with says he has a relatively high mortality rate coming in from the pacific with them as he imports directly and sells to the LFS. I had a transitioning splendid pencil previously and it passed when I did a tank breakdown to fix a bad seal last july. It took me this long to find another pencil.I've been searching for one of these. Nobody around me has them.
I have a male female pair of splendids currently. Nobody seems to be able to order Pseudojuloides severnsiApparently in general pencils are bad shippers, so the LFS usually dont bother with them. Yea to be fair this looks a lot like the ones in photosThat looks very nice. Not too far off from the massively enhanced Reef Pro photos.
Its beautiful in person. Just checked out the reef pro photo and that picture is more than enhanced! Also got it for a sixth of the price they are selling it for. I get that its 'conditioned' but from 30$ to 180$ is insane. That looks very nice. Not too far off from the massively enhanced Reef Pro photos.
Another female Rhomboid? Or just another Cirrhilabrus in general? It’s been a couple of weeks, and my Golden Rhomboid is really settling in. She is much less skittish and has started showing some of her personality.
A few days ago was the first time I really tried to see if she would eat pellets, and I was surprised to see she instantly started woofing them down!
I plan on adding another female, but am unsure how long to wait. Anyone have any advice? Would it be okay to add one in the next few weeks, or would it be better to wait a couple of months?

I got this exquisite fairy about a week ago, love the fish. Always out and swimming and eating really good. I noticed the first day I got it that has a white dot in its nose and it’s gotten worse since then. It’s alone in the qt tank, could it just be injury from shipping or catching?![]()

If you add another rhomboid, there shouldn’t be any aggression issues per se for the time being, once one transitions they could potentially form a pair. The thing is about pairs is that they never really work right with these fish.
You could add another wrasse or another fish in general if your bio-load hasn’t really changed with this guy. You could wait till tomorrow or next week or whenever you see it right. It’s been a few weeks since you added her so she should be established enough.

If that scoly bothers her you can send it this way. It’s been a couple of weeks, and my Golden Rhomboid is really settling in. She is much less skittish and has started showing some of her personality.

@i cant think can help you with pairing a lot more than I can. There is either aggressiveness, over attention, or the they just won’t decide to make things works.am a bit worried about the pair long term if/when the other inevitably transitions. Is that the concern for the rhomboids, or is there another reason they might be “wonky” in pairs?
Has anybody here been successful with cirrhilabrus “pairs”? I think that is a vendor made up term/fantasy. They live in large harems in the wild. Leopards, sure. The plan is for another female rhomboid, ideally on e that is a little bit smaller. I’m hoping that would jump start my rhomboid’s transition and maybe lead to them pairing. That is good info, and I think I’ll move to get another sooner than later.
I did add a small flame tomini tang (probably 1”-1.5”) to the tank and the rhomboid kinda hangs out with it and they keep eachother company. I thought the rhomboid would be skittish, but she doesn’t seem to mind at all!

@OrionN has had success but his tank is an anomaly due to the size.Has anybody here been successful with cirrhilabrus “pairs”? I think that is a vendor made up term/fantasy. They live in large harems in the wild. Leopards, sure.

Regular tank sizes generally don’t have much luck if any with keeping groups/pairs of Cirrhilabrus together as one almost always transitions and becomes aggressive to the other male. The same issue can occur with Paracheilinus species.
