The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Oh, that was your picture in this thread the other day! Beautiful fish!

I am not sure that I’d be able to keep one because my tank is bare bottom. Have you ever kept a pencil in a bare bottom tank, or are they a strict “need sand”?

Does your decolores stay out and active, or are they the type to hang out lower in the water column stick to the rocks?
@Fishfreak2009 said its all. Sand is a must, this one so far is coming out a bit late and going to sand early. I figure its gonna be a few weeks acclimating to my lighting schedule. I can set time to my other 3 sand dwelling wrasses (red coris, melnaurus and xmas wrasse) for when they come out and go back in.

My previous pencil was a splendid it was fairly active. Picked at rock all day and generally swam in the upper 2/3rds of the tank. It had a hellacious appetite once it understood tank life and tank food. It was a touch n go few weeks in the beginning with getting it to eat.

Found some photos. Its color was finally coming in when I lost it last August.

Thanks you and @Fishfreak2009 for info. Guess I’ll have to wait until I have a setup with sand again some time in the future.

They are beautiful fish. And what was really surprising was how “cheap” the decolares was ($75). For fish with that kind of color, usually big money required!

I added my red lined wrasse to my dt tank 2 days ago, while it was in qt it was always out and swimming and eating really good. Hid once I put it in the display tank, and haven’t seen since. Is this normal for them to hide and not eat at first? I’m sure it is but just want to make sure

It happens, its a major change of scenery. Give it a few more days. It may even be out after lights off.

Well my Hood Flame Fairy,
Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus. Been in the tank over 2 plus months just disappeared, a few days ago. I Do have a high fitting lid,

Haha! Is that what I’m known for? Liking nasty wrasses?!
Your LFS shots are certainly much better than mine but then it would feel weird to take my massive cannon in to an LFS.
