+1 whip fin fairy wrasse... one of the most aggressive of the fairy wrasses. Keep a close eye on this guy if you have other fairy wrasses or flasher wrasses.

The blue throat wrasse is definitely flashing around it. Fairly docile so far outside of posturing we shall see. The yellow coloring when the whip fin is flashing is defiantly beautiful.

Does anyone have any experience with Madagascar Flasher Wrasses? I've been in love with this wrasse for forever now and I managed to get one reserved- it's set to come in around 2 weeks from now. But given it's a relatively newer species to be available to hobbyists, their specific care requirements aren't listed anywhere, from what I've found at least. I figured I'd probably just approach it like a standard flasher wrasse in terms of feeding, for example, but wasn't sure if anyone had any experience with them and their care?

Many have experience with this fish, I’m pretty sure @SaltyT and @Crabby48 had one, someone else had one but I can’t remember who

For two years mine looked unhappy and colors weren’t great until I moved him to a tall 6’ tank. He is about 6” now. They need a lot of room. Behavior is like others. He will hold his ground to bully’s then sulk on sand bed. Enjoy

I don't worry about the blue throat too much the Coris & melanurus keep it in check.

The whipfin and blue throat I’m pretty sure are in the same complex so there will be more aggression than usual between the two. Especially with both of them being more boisterous wrasses.

Wrasse are most misunderstood fish. They aren’t to bad but takes a different approach. They got a bad reputation from people not understanding them like pit bulls

my old tank was 48x24x20”. It had good amount of rock that took up swimming room. He transitioned in qt. All my wrasse transition fast unfortunately. Half banded get big and want open water. Flashers in general need alot of room for there size. I don’t want to discourage you just what I noticed and someone else said his had not so good color and it was in the same size tank.

Watch, mine is a huge jumper and I have picked him off the floor twice. Once he knocked an acrylic top up enough to get out and once through a feed door. Both was because of getting spooked but he likes to jump in general. Always splashing and at surface.

I’m pretty sure it’s a Yellowfin flasher wrasse.

This guy was sold to me as a carpenter’s flasher wrasse, but I don’t think it is unless it’s transitioning and just doesn’t look like the photos I’m finding online yet. Anyone able to help with an ID? Thank you!

I’m pretty sure it’s a Yellowfin flasher wrasse.

Agree. But looks like a mix yellowfin and carpenters. It’s tail doesn’t look yellow and two Filaments but has yellow anal fin and red spot on dorsal where the filaments extend.

Edit. On phone with bad eyes. I roomed it and clearly only one filament. Yellowtail is my answer lol I need glasses.

Anyone kept Bodianus masudai in a mixed reef with various other wrasses? How did it behave? I'm contemplating adding one. Tankmates would include various reef safe wrasses, which would be my only concern.

I've kept a spawning pair of Bodianus bimaculatus in the past and they were fine with most other fish, just liked to nip the long fin filament on bannerfish. Similar behavior for B. masudai?

I would say try it but be prepared to have a net or a quick exit for the hogfish incase.
