I would not introduce any risk to those choati no matter what.

They are in a 100 gallon tank with clowns goby and Midas blenny. I need to transfer them to there permanent home with others. I am not looking forward to that. Have 4 other wrasse to add with them. Last two are the trouble makers flame and rhomboid on last chance.

Definitely - My LFS has a trio of lapillus and a pair of Vivienne’s and I’ve really got to say the reds on the Lapillus are beautiful.
I completely agree with you on the Blue Stars as males though, they don’t look as nice and I hope my female remains female for the whole time I own her (Even if I end up having other species of leopards or similar species to them with her).

Jealous. I went to get 3 more Vivien’s from TSM. When I got there they only had 2 small ones. Wasn’t comfortable adding two small ones to mine. Got one for a friend and other went to @Tcook. Shortly after. Vivien and potters both my number one fish.

And here I'm lucky if any of my LFS even get in a meleagris or a bipartitus... very jealous of all y'all with your fancy LFS. I don't want to ship leopards or pencils, but it keeps looking like I'm going to have to.

I am very lucky. Friend/lfs hooks me up. TSM is full qt and mostly male order but within 1.5 hours. My Choats was shipped.

Ahipping isn’t a problem if
1 shippers don’t blow it
2 shipper matches your salinity. Wrasse should never go up more the a couple points in 24 hours.
3 most important is they have been held for weeks to settle and get healthy. I recommend getting qt’ed. it makes all the difference
Or hope and prey. Leopards and more delicate fish being shipped need time before getting shipped to you is most important.

After looking at these pics i may have to get a rhomboidalis now.

I always email the shipper to get the SG the fish is shipped at. I keep 6 gallons of ro and 6 gallons of 1.026 at the office where my QT is. Quick check of the water in the bag and I can fine tune the QT SG.

Continuing the conversation @i cant think atarted about wrasse and how they place them.
jeweled is labeled as leopard in hobby but is a Halichoeres. It doesn’t have throat teeth so I’ll say it’s not a leopard but looks and acts as one.
Gold nugget is a Xenojulis. Ok I know nothing nor ever looked them up.
Then the point to this is the Choati. Anyone ever see a picture to see if they have throat teeth? They have an interesting dorsal fin and I feel like they look more like a gold nugget then other leopards. Just wondering if Choati are miss labeled as leopards.

I feel like Jeweled, gold nuggets and Choats body’s are very similar to each other. Would love to know if choats have throat teeth as that seems to be one common trait to leopards

Picked up a Choati the other day. So far so good. Eating and swimming all over. Thinking of adding a Kuiter wrasse ( if it’s still at my lfs ) and possibly the Earmuff

I don’t think I have ever seen a photo of a choats with throated teeth either. And I see what you mean as in photos they show that interesting bodyshape.

Not to be a wet blanket but what do you do when the smaller one transitions and they fight? Has anyone had a pair of cirrhilabrus do well long-term unless in a monster-sized tank? They usually live in harems to allow submales to survive and spread the aggression. I have an outstanding order with my lfs for a pair of jordani and will likely split them up.

I can’t really add much here then as I bought my two as males already. I think the second was a young male, the first was in there a good few months, possibly a year before though

I always wonder this also. Many highly looked up to people push groups of wrasse and many are know selling them as pairs and trio’s. I think it will end bad for most that aren’t prepared.
I chose to try a trio to help spread anything and also wanted to stick with fish not known to transition in captivity

Oh man… I think I need a tank upgrade soon - Going back through this thread is making me jealous. And maybe a Tank upgrade will give me a chance to remove the Jade if she becomes an issue.

I think in your care you can keep them for longer than most as you’re already highly experienced with wrasses that aren’t necessarily easy.

Ha thank you but for one my wrasse transition very fast and I don’t do anything special.
