The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Pic of my first flame before it was shipped. This is what I want again

Well, I did a rip clean on my 75 gallon today, and had all the fish in a 5 gallon bucket for 1 hr. Went to put the fish back and all 3 fairy wrasses (pintail, rhomboid, and bathyphilus) were all dead. All the rest of the fish and inverts seemed completely fine. Not sure what went wrong, maybe they panicked and darted into the sides of the bucket?
Gosh sorry, that seems incredibly unlucky. I suspected my naoko died from jumping into the lid too hard but no idea otherwise.

Why is there almost no new information about the Nursalim Flasher? Looking at forums, Youtube videos, websites, and none seem to have much. There also seems to be a lack of color in these wrasse wherever I look for them yet all the pictures I see on the internet are vibrant. I would like to add one to the tank but the lack of info about them seems a bit iffy to me.
The information on them is so little as they’re incredibly rare in captivity and many of the photos you see aren’t the wrasse in ‘resting’ colours, instead they’re much more likely to be in display.
Does anyone know of some wrasses who have those threaded dorsal fins? @i cant think have you kept any before?
I assume you mean the several filaments like the Nursalim has?
If you do, then any of the Paracheilinus genus has it, Paracheilinus cyaneus, Paracheilinus lineopunctatus and Paracheilinus filamentosus are the best examples for the filaments.
Does anyone else think the Paddle Fin Wrasse looks better as a Juvie rather than an adult?

I thought this too but actually on a larger specimen, that male colouration (females also have that beautiful ‘juvenile’ colouration) is just as nice. However I do still prefer the female colouring on this wrasse.

It sounds too quick to have been just a simple dive into the buckets. Wrasses panic however they don’t usually damage themselves that badly in such a short period of time.
It could have been aggression from being in such a little area with not many hiding spots (if any).

Does your Naoko like to hide a lot?
He doesn’t hide constantly, he’s actually out currently. It’s just how he seems to go into the caves every so often and peck at the rocks.

He is definitely posing lol. That green is really coming out now.
He was 100% posing! As soon as I took the photo he swam right off haha.

Would any of you consider one of these in your wrasse reef? Saw it at the lfs today. Probably not a good idea with the increased nutrients and burrowing. I could imagine seeing it swim by with my Vivien in its mouth.

They are fish eaters. Small fish but those teeth can still do damage.
I have a couple wrasse in my eel tank though:

I have swapped the radiant for my melanarus as the melanarus was bullying in my other tank.

I can see you also have some Mollies as well?

Had. I’m not sure what got them. The wrasse or the salinity but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the eels. The wrasse certainly got the smaller ones.

Edit: guppies not mollies. Mollies would do alright in the salinity while guppies do alright for a while.

The wrasse? Wow. Hungry little buggers. I added less than a 2 dozen ghost shrimp to my tank not too long ago. And my Angel got ahold of most of them, but my Clowns actually at one. Didn’t think they would but hey ho.
