The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Only 8 can make the real list though. I still need room for my existing fish and additions.
That’s a shame, I vote;
- Attenuatus
- Nahackyi
- Johnsoni
- Lubbocki
- Negrosensis
- Marisirubri
- Melasmapomus
- Rhomboidalis

and a cheeky 9th; Naokoae (obviously with caution).

Let’s add a cheeky 10th and add the lunatic lunatus :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Is there something with the lunatic lunatus that put you off of it?

Let’s add a Earls and a Eight Line to the could be list shall we :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Honestly, not really I just find the others to be nicer (and higher on my personal list).

I love P. attenuatus but they tend to get less colorful in brightly lit tanks....turning almost black on their dorsum.

C. earlei
C. johnsoni
C. nahackyi (good luck, they are hard to find) C. bathyphylis is closely related and easier to get.
C. rhomboidalis (or C. lineatus in it's place...but not both)
C. lunatus
H. melasmapomas (wonderful Halichoeres wrasse...got quite large in my tank, about 7").
P. octotaenia
M. geoffroyi (in the place of the M. bipartitus).

Wrasse trio (1 of 1) (2).jpg

Other flashers to look at ...P. rubricaudalis, P. flavianalis

Good luck trying to get some of those now… especially M. geoffroyi.

Omg I’m so sorry @Slocke I’m almost 2 hours late! Well better late than never I suppose.
Alright alright. I'm here, I'm alive. Just got back from investigating an illegal oil dump and with this weather I think that's an accomplishment. You're reminding me of my contractors: "It's cold" "it's raining too hard" "I want to see my family" "its Christmas". A deadline is a deadline @Petcrazyson .

(joking obviously they all volunteered and it was me doing the complaining)
Ok @i cant think @SaltyT @Slocke @A Young reefer heres the list! @SaltyT you wanted wrasses for the reef here they are! Could you all help me mix n match pls? Suggestions needed.
Those wrasses are awesome!! I'll let the experts give you the advice but I do think they're all beautiful. Even if I think the female marisrubri is prettier.
@Slocke whats your list?
I have:
5':
  • P ataenia
  • H iridis
  • M marisrubri
  • CB Labroides dimidiatus
6':
  • C gaimard
  • H melanarus
In quarantine I have C exquisitus (surprise)

Considering:
  • C rosefacia
  • An Anampses
  • Novaculichthys taeniourus

Good luck trying to get some of those now… especially M. geoffroyi.

I know. I had mine for 6 years and lost him) probably to age about a year ago. Been looking for one for 6 months. Since they're Hawaiian it's probably never gonna happen.

First bit of advice;
Trap and remove the sixline, you likely will not be able to add any other wrasses - especially the leopards. Leopards are much more sensitive to aggression than some other species from what I’ve seen.
Thanks for the advice! Any recommendations for trapping him? Also the one reason I like the six line is that they eat parasites/flatworms do other wrasses do the same?

There’s a whole other genus of wrasse that does this exact thing! Look into the Halichoeres :)

I recommend forming a list of maybe 20-30 wrasses you like the look of and then we can pick through them.
The genera I recommend looking at are;
Paracheilinus (assuming your tank is 4’ or more)
Cirrhilabrus
Anampses (see Paracheilinus)
Macropharyngodon
Halichoeres

I have a 4’ 150 gallon and so far all I got in there is the 6line, 2 chromis, and a mocha storm clown. It’s pretty boring fish wise. These are some that I really like

Nice list, I personally love my leopards! I think every one of them will work together in your tank.
